"It is a small town. We rented a car and drove to Phuket (2.5hrs away) and the next day drove to Krabi (2.5 hrs away). Roads are windy so I recommend only skillful or experienced drivers to be behind the wheel. 7-11 is a blessing in KL. Their cheesy toast and chicken burger are really value for money.
There is nothing much to see in KL per say except for the beach and the tsunami museum. Water activities are in abundance though."

"Lots of things to photograph here. Street photography, landscape, seascapes, drones, portraits, temples, wildlife. The Elephant Cave was awesome, and we even arranged to photograph it with our tripods. Lots of monkeys were running around. We took our scooters about 20 minutes away to a dock and launched drones to capture beautiful river deltas. About an hour away was a nice sunset spot called Samet Nangshe."

The room has an unblocked view across the bay so you can enjoy it from your bed! The rooms were spotlessly clean, bed comfortable and warm shower. The restaurant area was nice with the same views, just magical! We ate dinner there and the food was very good. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, a perfect stay really!

The breakfast was exceptional—incredibly varied, high-quality, and beautifully presented, with options for every taste, both Western and Asian. All of the resort’s restaurants are excellent, offering consistently delicious food and a great dining experience.
The staff truly deserve special recognition. Everyone was friendly and professional, but Bob and his team at the reception desk stood out for their outstanding service. They were extremely helpful, attentive, and genuinely customer-focused, always ready to assist with a smile.
The rooms are spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, providing everything you would expect from a top-tier Marriott resort. Relaxing by the Quiet Pool was wonderfully peaceful, perfect for unwinding. The beach is breathtakingly beautiful—pristine, expansive, and ideal for enjoying stunning sunsets.
The surrounding area also offers some great dining options. There are several excellent local restaurants nearby, with Blue Sky being a definite must-visit.
In short, this resort offers the perfect combination of luxury, comfort, and relaxation. We would highly recommend it and would love to return in the future!

It was a really well-kept hotel, with nice staff, nice amenities, and comfortable and spacious rooms. It was centrally located to visit many places around the town. Perfect for photographers like myself to base out of to explore around the area. Go see the Elephant Cave!

AustraliaWe spent 7 nights there recently with our family (kids 6 and 4) and we loved it! There resort is stunning (like the pics) and the pools kept our girls entertained for large parts of the day but there was also lots of kids activities that we could book them in for as well. The restaurants were amazing , quality food for a very reasonable price, beach bar with live music in the evenings as the sun is setting. The fire shows were awesome on the beach. A huge breakfast buffet (who doesn't love breakfast buffets!) and much more - we will definitely be back! All of the staff were incredibly accommodating and the facilities were kept very clean. The nice team members who kept our room clean made different characters shaped with towels for the first 3-4 nights which our girls loved :)

BahrainThis is my second visit to Avani + Khao Lak two years in a row. This is now my therapeutic retreat for me and my family. My kids are so in love with the place especially the kids club. I was so happy to see that most of the staff that I met last year are still at the resort and working tirelessly to keep up with all their guests’ requests. Please keep up this great work you’re all doing and I’ happy this year I was lucky to enjoy a less rainy weather and swam at the beach most of my stay.

The service was exceptional—every member of the staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. They went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible, showering us every morning with fresh juices and fruits, and always making us feel welcomed and cared for.
Special thanks to our amazing butler Max and the entire team for their heartfelt hospitality and outstanding service. You made us feel truly at home.
They also prepared our meals exactly the way we like them, which was a lovely personal touch. Everything—from the setting to the atmosphere—was done with great attention to detail and true hospitality.
We’ve traveled all over the world, and Devasom is honestly one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Highly recommended for anyone seeking style, comfort, and a meaningful experience.

I had the most wonderful stay at Aleenta.The entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. Our stay at the villa was absolutely wonderful. I chose a 3-bedroom villa with a private pool, and it was really nice and comfortable. The place was spacious, clean, and well-maintained, with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable holiday. The location was peaceful and private, close to attractions but not near shops, and about 2 hours by car from Patong Beach. The price was very reasonable for the quality offered. The host provided excellent hospitality and service, making our stay even more enjoyable. We truly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend this villa to anyone visiting the area.

We loved this resort: it is a tropical paradise.
We loved this resort: it is a tropical paradise. While the beach is wonderful to walk on and gaze at, we found the gorgeous garden a real attraction. Unlike other resorts, Moracea is not set in a series of manicured lawns and some trees, it is nestled in a beautiful, lush and verdant garden which hosts many birds and other wildlife. The resort really makes good on its promise to care far the environment and takes measures to guarantee that the offerings have a minimal environmental impact. Toiletries are good quality and are in bottles that are refilled, fresh drinking water is provided on rooms and other places in order to minimise use of plastic. The staff were wonderful: reception staff were always keen to help us with a range of questions, the restaurant staff were efficient, friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The breakfast room on the beach was terrific: food was fresh, of good quality and well organised. There are a several good local restaurants in easy walking distance, or a taxi into the main Khao Lak area was around $4 AUD. The only drawback might be the fact that it is on a hill, but we managed it (we are in our 70's and average fitness). The resort staff are aware of this potential issue and organised a lift for people to and from their rooms if needed. I highly recommend this place. Khao Lak itself is a lovely, sleepy, friendly place to pass some time and Moracea by Khao Lak is the perfect place to stay

The best hotel I have ever been to.
The best hotel I have ever been to. The views are absolutely breathtaking, the location is stunning, and the surrounding nature is simply incredible. Everything about this place was perfect, from the peaceful atmosphere to the beautiful scenery. It was truly an unforgettable experience, and I can't recommend it highly enough!

Nice and calm Island.
Nice and calm Island. It's a great island to explore, either by bike or scooter. It has a couple of beaches, mostly on the East coast. Additionally have a walk through the main village of the island, discover the west coast, some natural rubber plantations, rice fields. Also, get on a boat to explore nearby Islands.
It's a great island to relax and calm down. Apart from the exploration, bring a book to reat on your terrace or at the beach.
Accommodation-wise, stay at Sangai Corner Bungalow with beaches in walking distance. Our favourite dinner place was Koh Yao Bistro by Chef Aon.

Lots of things to photograph here.
Lots of things to photograph here. Street photography, landscape, seascapes, drones, portraits, temples, wildlife. The Elephant Cave was awesome, and we even arranged to photograph it with our tripods. Lots of monkeys were running around. We took our scooters about 20 minutes away to a dock and launched drones to capture beautiful river deltas. About an hour away was a nice sunset spot called Samet Nangshe.

Everything was great.
Everything was great.
We stayed for four nights - and there is not that much to do close to the hotel. Two nights would have been ample.
However - we enjoyed just relaxing and enjoying the place, without feeling the need to rush to many different sites.

Khao Lak is amazing😎so relaxing not like Patong , the beaches are stunning, traffic is so quiet we were shocked but pleasantly surprised, plenty of restaurants massage places shopping just not the busy night life, ideal for older couples

I stayed in a one-bedroom sea view pool villa and found it exceptional overall. The sea views are truly stunning, and the outdoor shower adds a wonderful touch. Breakfast was excellent, and the poolside restaurant offers great service with happy hour drinks. The atmosphere is genuinely family-friendly, quiet, and relaxed, perfect for unwinding. Fresh fruits from the grounds were a lovely welcome touch. My main frustration was the unexpected shuttle charges from the pier, which should really be included given it's your only way to arrive. The outdoor shower and bath also needed cleaning upon arrival, and the room could have been cleaner before check-in. Despite these issues, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would return.

What a special island.
What a special island. If you want to get away from the high volume of tourists and discover true island bliss and relaxation, don't hesitate and book at Ko Yao Noi. Quiet, quaint, and authentic Thailand. Rent bikes or scooters. Totally comfortable riding around the island. It's not like other big cities on scooters. Felt safe the entire time. Great little ma and pa restaurants and bars throughout the island.

You should visit the crazy (and a bit scary) Wat Tham Ta Pan...
You should visit the crazy (and a bit scary) Wat Tham Ta Pan Temple, which offers both a great cave and a super observation tower. In Somdet Phra Sinagarindra Park right in the city there are beautiful caves and wild monkeys. Phang-nga is also the best starting point for great boat trips to James Bond Island.
