"I love everything about New York City. Every time you can do something totally different than the last. Always new restaurants to try, plays to see, things to do. The only thing not to like is that everything is more expensive than you think, but you can do it on a budget. I highly recommend booking the crown tour of the statue of liberty. It books out quickly so plan in advance. Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park are can’t miss spots. It’s so easy to get around. If you like to walk you can get your steps in, but the subway is great and google maps can guide you perfectly."

"We love staying in Brooklyn whenever we come to NYC. Our son, daughter-in-law and grandson reside in Carroll Gardens, them of course being the main draw and reason for us choosing to stay in Brooklyn. Now being familiar with the area, however, I would highly recommend Brooklyn as the place to stay when visiting the city. It is very family friendly, has numerous great restaurants, bars and live music and is very aesthetically pleasing. We love walking down the brownstone lined streets, seeing the many piers so creatively designed for families, going to the Brooklyn Promenade, seeing the beautiful views of the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan. Lastly, it is very easy to get from Brooklyn into the city. The subway system is much easier to navigate than what one may think!"

"It was a great cheaper alternative to staying in NYC. We were going to a concert at the Brooklyn Steel pier so with traffic it was about 40 minutes to get there on a Saturday night, but we hung out in Brooklyn for a while before the show. In the morning, we went to Liberty State Park and saw the Statue of Liberty and a 911 memorial (you can take the ferry from this park to the Statue of Liberty) The bathrooms at this park were very well kept and the whole park was big and beautiful. On the way back home we stopped at Wonder Bagels which was crowded but worth the wait. Lots of shops around and it looks like a lot is being done to enhance the area."

"Jamaica is wonderful! My wife and I have been there many many times. People are so friendly, I feel like family. Usually, tourists are a little concerned with security and opt for staying in resorts. Of course there are some unsafe areas and you need to watch out for your pockets and purses (like anywhere else), but we highly recommend to explore and feel the culture, feel the people. And don't be afraid of smaller, quaint hotels - never a disappointment. And there are so many beautiful places to see. One we love the most is Treasure Island - peace and quiet. Just superb!"

If I needed to stay somewhere near JFK for a flight the next day, I would definitely not stay at a Comfort Inn. I would spend the extra $50 to $100 to get a decent room, a quicker shuttle from the airport to the hotel (there was no problem the next day from the hotel to the airport). Spend the extra money, you'll be glad you did.

If you are travelling as group with limited budget to see...

If you are travelling as group with limited budget to see the main attractions of NYC, then choosing Newark seems the best option. Living anywhere inside the NYC is very expensive and does not offer much of an advantage compare to living somewhere 30 minutes a away, i.e., Newark. Newark Penn station is a major train hub and takes you anywhere close or far. It's also is major bus/coach station. From here, downtown NYC is 30 minutes away by subway. You can go to long island within an hour. The neighbourhood is a mix of Portuguese, Spanish, Mexicans and other south americans. That means great and lot of eating options from bakeries to bars and tavernas and eateries. It offers more reasonably priced options to stay. Best avoid driving into the NYC as it includes tolls either way crossing the tunnels or bridges.

Stay huddled in your room with the door locked and bolted. Do not go out , especially at night. Have food delivered. Easily the dirtiest part of the city, there is rotting garbage everywhere, especially on the sidewalks and street corners. The Bronx is not the place for the Lily White, honky, cracka.
