"So many people come for Mt Rushmore yet every time I return, I'm more curious to see the changes on the Crazy Horse Memorial. I recommend it over Mt. Rushmore to anyone limited on time. The entire area is my favorite area to spend most of my vacations."

"Hill City is a great place to stay. It's beautiful and right in the middle of all Black Hills attractions. Keystone is like 15 min drive away, Sylvan Lake is 3 miles away, Rapid City is 27 miles. Everywhere you drive, the scenery is amazing, so even driving 30 minutes to Rapid City is a quick, pleasurable drive. Hill Citys Main street has lots of nice dining and shopping options, including a Subway for a picnic lunch at Sylvan Lake. Hill City also has a nice Grocery store and a hardware store, unlike Keystone. I'd highly recommend staying in Hill City to get the full Black Hills living experience."

Loved it! One of the most special stays of our road trip and I will try to stay in more Under Canvas venues in future trips to the US. It was especially fun for our 8 year old daughter. The tents are very comfortable and we were a short walk to the showers and toilets which were cleaned every 5 mins it felt like. Great restaurant with good choices for breakfast and dinner. Lots of games to play and also free s'mores to roast. So nice to be in all that nature. and very close to Mount Rushmore which was why we came.

Location was perfect. Could walk to stores & dining Three stories and no elevator so if elderly or have small children or have lots of luggage, be sure to request ground floor when you make reservations and make them early. Boss pizza was excellent!

Custer is a hidden gem in the Black Hills.

Custer is a hidden gem in the Black Hills. It is centrally located and reasonably priced. We meet family here every year and will extend our stay next year! We especially loved the Dulce Black Hills Bakery with their gluten free menu. A special thanks to the Skogen Kitchen for bringing such wonderful culinary artists into Custer and the Black Hills!

Overall we had a great experience at the new Stay USA.

Overall we had a great experience at the new Stay USA. The biggest negative was the pool being closed. We even called to make sure it was open before booking and they said it was, it wasn't. We decided to stay anyways and we're pleasantly surprised. Great free breakfast, Wonderful hot tub(best value hotel tub in my opinion), clean room, nice ice machine, cool property. It had the feel of an outdated used to be really nice place, that I'm guessing was under new management, and they seemed to be trying to improve the property, but renovations seemed to be slow, and sporadic. Nice place for the money, will be back if the price stays the same

Hermosa was close to Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and Crazy Horse. We were happy staying here. We stayed for 4 nights, but could have stayed 1-2 more. It was a beautiful area. Getting around Hermosa was easy with the help of Google maps. There are a lot of dirt roads though.

Keystone is a breathtaking area.

Keystone is a breathtaking area. There is so much to do and it is very family friendly. Pets too are welcome in many areas. The town has many shops and eateries. It also has an adventure park and a train depot that takes visitors on a scenic ride of the Black Hills. All within an hour or less drive are Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the Wild Life Loop. Several state parks with large lakes and several great fishing spots.

Custer doesn’t have any “chain” facilities, which made it nice. Not a very crowded town. The servings of ice cream at the Purple Pie Pakce were big. The breakfast at Calamity Jane’s was ok. There were numerous shops we didn’t frequent because we were just too tired. It was an easy drive to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial.

I was in Hill City 26 years ago. It is still a great spot for accommodations and restaurants. It is a bit more of a tourist trap than it was back then. Probably great for families. I highly recommend the Steam Train and access to Custer State Park-especially the Needles Hwy and Sylvan Lake.

Our stay at Rushmore Express & Suites in Keystone, SD was wonderful. We had a family suite and it was the perfect size for 2 grandparents with 2 grandteens. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and absolutely beautiful. The customer service was excellent. Keystone is the perfect "home base" to stay while seeing all the sights in the surrounding area. The small town is easy to get around, has a lot of shopping and activities, and felt safe for our family. We loved our stay in Keystone!
