CanadaWe only planned to do one night in Shirakawa, but with the price point of Guest House Kei, we decided to stay one more night. The property was lovely, and the staff were very friendly, specifically Ken, who gave us great recommendations for our journey onwards. The beds were very comfortable, and the facilities were clean. The property had free parking as well, which was very convenient. They also offered a shuttle service to and from the bus terminal.

CanadaThis a wonderful place to stay. It’s only a 10 minute bus ride from Shirakawa to Hirase Shirakawaguchi bus stop which is a one minute walk from Saluga Bamba. The hosts, Shoko and Kenji are a vey helpful, friendly, and generous couple. They made our stay one of the best we’ve had in Japan. The breakfast was amazing with home grown vegetables and mountain vegetables picked fresh daily. Truly amazing! And the outdoor onsen was great as well.

United StatesAbsolutely everything! This property will put you in the heart of Shirakawa-go. Its location allows you to walk around in the village at night and truly feel immersed in this beautiful place. This is a unique accommodation in that there are ~3 rooms. Each room shares either one or two walls with the room next door, meaning that you need to be very mindful of the sounds that you make as sounds carry very easily through the walls. As of June 2026, there are no staff that speak English, so be sure to have Google translate available. The staff is unbelievably nice and the food was by far the best food I’ve had in Japan. I will definitely be returning here!

If you want budget stay near Shirakawa-go there are only a handful of options. This hostel was a 1/2 mile walk from Shirakawa-go and was a great value for us. We had two private rooms on the 2nd floor with a shared bathroom. There were no issues using the shared bathroom and the bathroom and shower were clean and easy to use. There is shared bunk beds on the ground floor and the private room on the 2nd floor has stairs that may be tricky if you have mobility issues or elderly. I had a great time here.

It was very clean with comfortable beds and a good shower and bathroom. The room had a fridge too. In the common parts there was a microwave and a bottle opener. For a one night stay it was comfortable and pleasant. There were no staff. You let yourself in and check yourself out.

The hotel is simply fantastic, very Japanese style and comfortable. We loved our spacious room, nicely decorated with Japanese details and features. The SPA has a common part as well as private rooms for more privacy and quietness. Most rooms overlook the river and the view is rather intriguing with the mountains at the back. We really enjoyed the ramen offered to all guests at 10pm, definitely a plus

The rooms are quite big and comfortable, including the bathroom. They give you Yukatas to wear during your stay plus other amenities such as tea, coffee, cookies, etc. it’s an Ok room if you’re only thinking about sleeping well.

Great location and close to Shirakawago. The onsen is very well maintained with multiple baths. Room was huge and well furnished. Staff was very courteous. The meals were great.

This was the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Completely worth navigating the train/bus network from Tokyo to stay here. The family that runs the ryokan is wonderful and hosted us so graciously. Room was large and we could hear the river running below - very peaceful. Also, incredible food.

Beautiful traditional hotel in Shirakawa.
Structure is quite new and mix tradition and modern.
Rooms are spacious and with all comforts.
24h onsen available, including drinks and snacks.
Traditional dinner and breakfast available, which is a must to try.
Staff is good and always try to help on anything.
Shuttle bus from Shirakawa bus stop / traditional village.

Very kind host, good communication. Although the house is not in the middle of the historical village, it has its charm. The common area is really nice and coffee or tea are always available for free. I found it easy to reach the place walking 20 minutes from the bus station. The owner offers a shuttle service for free once per day, upon request, but I did not use it. The room was really small but very nice and comfortable.

It's a perfect place. We've stayed in a four person room. It was spacious and confortable. The entire hotel is absolutely clean. The onsen is spotless.

The staff were very kind. When we arrived, they offered to put us into an otherwise empty dorm room together even though they were meant to be split up by gender. They were also able to cater for my dietary requirements (vegetarian) in the restaurant. The stay was walking distance away from the gassho zukuri houses and the bus stop, but the walk wasn't particularly scenic.
