The onsen and the breakfast buffet

The breakfast and dinner was amazing and intricate with unique flavours. Our host made a lot of effort to explain the food to us in English. The room (seaview was exceptional) was beautifully decorated and comfortable. Service (including check in and check out) was like a performance art. Onsen was pretty and you can see both if you time things right.

I’ll make it brief. I loved this place. The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming. It’s a Japanese style hotel which equally means clean and neat. It has a tiny Onsen-like bathroom inside with a sea view. I highly recommend this place for visitors of Amsnohashodate.

It was authentic Japanese atmosphere..not like any of the hotel chains, ...small and cozy. The staff was very friendly, Google translate saved my life... instructions were all in Japanese...from operating fan to flushing toilet and find out what the various bottles in the bathroom contained. I had asked for pickup from the train station..it had worked out perfectly. The tatami area gave the room a nice Japanese flavor. The little balcony with ocen view was a lovely morning and evening spot. The hotel is not brand-new but cozy and clean. I did not book a meal plan. The room had a fridge and and water boiler. On the forth floor was an onsen which I also enjoyed.

The breakfast was delicious. Be prepared to eat a lot of great food. Staff was very helpful and sweet. Helped me coordinate flowers

So close to the station, very convenient. My room looked exactly like in the picture w/ a beautiful sea view of Amanohashidate & the bay. I stayed there in July, during summer, and the AC was super cold, which I really appreciated. In the bathroom they have make up cleanser, toner, lotion by Pola very convenient. They also provide some product for men, shaving cream, aftershave & lotion. I also enjoyed the foot onsen at the back of the hotel, really relaxing. The garden at the back also offers a gorgeous sea view, perfect for unwinding. There’s a nice restaurant just a one-minute walk away, located on the second floor above a shop that sells food, sweets & knickknacks. It’s also easy to access the temple, ferry tour station and some charming little shops nearby. Don’t forget to stop by a lovely cafe right by the water, it's overlooking the rotating red bridge, they serve lovely desserts.

Clean, organized and full of useful amenities

My husband declared our room at Taikourou the nicest we had in Japan. It was comfortable , in traditional style ( but with mattresses on raised platforms) , filled with light and fresh air , with a wonderful view of the park and swing bridge. Having a couple of comfortable chairs to sit and take in the view was wonderful. Dinners at this ryokan were wonderful and used seasonal ingredients. We love the experience of these traditional meals. There was also a lovely onsen - small but then I did have it to myself so no problem. I can’t end this review without mentioning the staff who were so kind and helpful. There was one woman in particular who went out of her way to help us understand the meals, ensured we had everything we needed and just generally she was so positive in our interactions.

The location is the best, closed to train station and a few minutes walk to sandbar and the pier for a boat ride. The room is quite spacious and the sea view is the best. Shared bathroom is a bit small but luckily no one there when I used it. Dinner was great, they change some for my food preferences, advance booking needed.

The ryokan is a short distance from the train station, yet Tanaka-san picked us up & walked us through check-in. She explained about the room & asked about times for our kaiseki dinner & breakfast. We were too early to enter the room so we walked out to the beach & in the town. Both of these were very close to the ryokan & very romantic. The smallest detail was thought of in the room layout especially towards comfort & privacy. Having a view of the beach beyond the small Japanese garden was a photographer's dream. The styling was traditional Japanese with western sensibilities. Both Dinner & Breakfast were handled by Yuko-san. She explained each dish as we were being served & the local sources used. Yuko-san was gracious & we felt welcomed for both meals. What did we like? Everything!
