The staff were very friendly and accommodating of our lack of japanese skills. Atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, and the room was comfortable. Breakfast was included in the initial cost of the booking, and the quality of it was fantastic, doubly so considering it came at no extra charge. Location was also great, 5 minute walk to both the local station and convenience stores.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. It feels like you are staying in a friend's cabin in the woods. The owner is one of the kindest people I have met so far in Japan and an amazing cook. Every meal was outstanding. The beds were comfortable, the room was airy, and the bath felt amazing. I can't sing enough praises.

This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at - from the hospitable welcome, the myriad of amenities (free welcome hot bev, udon noodles post-onsen, incredible rooftop onsen with great views, free ice cream and Yakult post-bath), cute and clean rooms, the ease of doing laundry within the women's locker change rooms etc. The buffet breakfast was super delicious and we just really enjoyed our time and experience here we wanted to stay in the whole time. HIGHLY recommend staying here if you're in Matsumoto.

The host is amazing, the place is a new listing, so it is a work in progress. The host is always looking for feedback on how to improve the place. When we had a problem he solved it really fast. Location is perfect (be sure to rent a car). The place is an historic very traditional house and small museum. Quite a unique experience. Be mindful that given it is an old historic house, there is no AC so in summer can be really hot, and winters really cold. You also can't expect a spot-clean house because of this. You need to be OK with having an old-house experience and what that entails.
