The house has a modern interior complete with all the creature comforts (including a full kitchen, washer, satellite TV, AC, Wi-Fi). The host left a complimentary bottle of local red wine and water as welcome gifts. We could enter the house using a key stored in a convenient lock box and the host met us to show us the ins and outs of the home. The location centers you in the rural countryside of the Barroso region with downtown Montalegre a <10 min drive away with a castle and regional museum (both free!), shops, and restaurants. Closer to the house is access to the lake at Travassos da Chã, which we took advantage of to beat the afternoon summer heat. It’s also a short drive to Serra da Larouco (second highest point in Portugal, and you can drive to the top!), and Chaves (founded by Rome). Don’t miss the quick drive to Baltar, Spain, to try Octopus Galician style (pulpo a la gallego).

Exceeded expectations in every way. The house was very cute, bright, wonderful outdoor space and orientation, we enjoyed views from everywhere. The grounds were beautiful and really incredible, terraced seating areas, the fabulously warm pool! And Maria was magic - she was kind, welcoming and went above and beyond. We loved it and look forward to coming back. An amazing value too for such a lovely experience.

The villa is incredible and the views are breathtaking. The house is neatly decorated and has everything necessary to enjoy a few days in nature. The jacuzzi and pool are great (we didn't use the later as it was really cold in January, but the jacuzzi sure made up for it). The location is close to all sorts of activities in Gerês and Vieira do Minho. Highly recommend and we'll surely try to comeback. Despiste some reviews suggesting it, our ACs worked flawlessly and wi-fi worked great (had a zoom meeting for 4 hours without any problems at all - consistent >100mbp/s speed). Also want to add that we had a (very) small issue with the kitchen that was promptly checked and solved by the host and keeper!

Casinha da fonte is located in Arcos de Valdevez, just 28 miles from Sao Bento da Porta Aberta Sanctuary and 30 miles from Canicada Lake.

Very clean, spacious, all amenities included, many towels, pillows, large bed, shower gel, equipped kitchen, it was really very well kept.

14 miles from Canicada Lake in Rossas, Quinta do Além features accommodations with access to a hot tub. With mountain views, this accommodation provides a terrace and a swimming pool.

This is a lovely place to stay in Geres, not far from the hiking start points - the tourist office is next door and can provide some info on hikes. We were lucky to have met the hosts; who were so very kind and upgraded our room on second night - if available, do book the two bedroom apartment when traveling with kids .

Casinhas da Capela offers accommodations in Tourém, 20 miles from Fírvidas Waterfall.

Casa João Rodas offers accommodations in Soajo, 25 miles from Geres Thermal Spa and 26 miles from Parque Nacional da Peneda Geres.
