CanadaThe bungalows are part of a large hotel complex however they are set a short distance away. Very safe and very clean. We loved it. The hotel took care of your luggage from the airport for free.

United StatesWhile not as bougie as the Hayman Island Resort, there is a lot to do at this resort. There are 2 restaurants on the island and the food options include an asian restaurant and a burger and pizza type of place. But vegetarian options available too and a small gift shop in the main lobby. But the key thing is the amazing activities to do on the resort (swimming with stingrays, live reef, sunset beach area behind with a rainforest pathway too to hike, sailing lessons that can be done from the island and scubadiving from island. The island has two sides, one for day trip and one for people staying. Big pools to swim in plus beach side. Great views. Easy to access port to go to reef or white haven tours as well as snorkeling tours or back to mainland to airlie beach or hamilton island. Walaroos are cute as anything on the island and you can feed them apples and bread and rice etc. like they are your pet dog. The cockatoos too. There was also paint and sip and other activities as well. Very family friendly. There is an underwater observatory room(an aquarium of sorts) and morning yoga in that room. there is also a kids section and other such aquariums throughout. It is beautiful paradise

A great island to visit and well worth it for a winter...
A great island to visit and well worth it for a winter escape. Great walks to do and the beaches were not busy considering the amount of people that are here on holiday. Great roads and the free buses were great for getting around.

Lovely place to just stop and relax, with smaller numbers than most resorts, no children and no motorized water sports, but it does need some TLC if it wants to keep its 4* rating. Getting there should be discounted if you are staying there vs visiting for the day. The day trippers tended to take over a bit so I think they should charge more for this. The restaurant serves lovely fresh food and the staff are very friendly and helpful, if somewhat transient. Was disappointed no spa service was on offer while we were there due to staffing issues.

It is SO run down, OVER priced and limited options for food which is so overpriced for the quality. Other islands are SO much better and maintained and much cheaper. Pools at Daydream are dated, gardens unmaintained, paths a trip hazzard and beach has sharp coral no sand so difficult to swim. VERY overpriced and pictures are NOTHING like the reality.

Shute Harbour is quiet, beautiful and has a terminal for trips to the islands and the reefs. It offers no shops or restaurants but by car either your own or ridesharing, or reasonable bus service, one can get to such facilities with little trouble - only 10 km to Airlie Beach, which is of course much noisier and more of a party place.

Buggy hire was expensive. No nice coffee bars.
There is a pub scene but no nice little wine bars where you could relax and take in the view.
On a positive note Manta Ray restaurant was great and gave you these options. Staff were fantastic.

There are two resorts in the island.
There are two resorts in the island. Palm Bay is the lesser expensive one, Elysian the more up market. Getting there is very easy from Schute Harbour, only 30 minutes. There are a few good hikes on the island.

I had booked an ocean view room to have a cement balcony blocking majority of the view.
The 2 restaurants provided are very average at best, considering you are in the Whitsundays you would usually expect fresh seafood. The food was always overcooked, tasteless and rubbery & OVERPRICED!
The lobby store, the only place you could buy essentials like water, feminine products and snacks is only open between 8 am and 3 pm. So if you have a horrible dinner and are still hungry, you are out of luck.
We sat by the pool on Saturday for about 3 hours and didn't see one staff member walking around clearing glasses or used towels abandoned by the pool.
Sunday afternoon we went to the Salti restaurant to get takeaway pizza (the only edible food on the menu) and had to wait a few minutes for the waitress to finish her conversation with her co-worker before being served. The chef even had to get her attention and tell her there was a line of people waiting to order.
The rooms are only cleaned surface level, the shower had mould throughout the grout, the air conditioner is mouldy. The doors to the balcony were hanging on by a thread.
The hallway carpets are mouldy and so are the glass windows. This did not feel like a resort and this is not worth the 2.5k spent.
The entire trip felt like we were intruding on the workers and bothered them every time they needed to actually work. Daydream Island isn't what it used to be and feels like an abandoned island with a pool.

There is no town at Shute Harbour, only, well, a harbour. This is serviced by a good road and a bus from Airlie Beach, but the location is quite remote. This means it is very peaceful and calm, but you will need to plan ahead for meals and shopping.

Hamilton Island is a great place to stay with many things to do in a relatively small area. All within walking distance. On top of that there are many activities can be organized from the island to do around and off-shore.

It's a beautiful remote island with nothing but a resort on...
It's a beautiful remote island with nothing but a resort on there. Great to disconnect from the busy city life. There's nature activities to do such as bush walks, and if you're staying at the Palm Bay resort you can hire kayaks, snorkelling equipment and stinger suits for free.
