One of the nicest hotel rooms I have stayed in. The bed was super comfortable and the reception staff were very helpful when I arrived off the ferry at midnight.
Great that there was breakfast as well.
Only wish I got to spend more time at the hotel - to be able to enjoy it more fully.

Port Hardy is quite small, but it has the necessities you might need. There is a Save-On-Foods near the hotel, as well as a pharmacy and even a Dollar store. You will also find a McDonald's and an A&W nearby. If you are staying at the hotel, I would recommend the attached Pub. It's very good and has a good, varied menu.
San Joseph Bay is a must-see trip. It's beautiful! The 62km road is a well-graded active logging road as far as Holberg. We did not find the logging trucks to be a problem. A few empty trucks passed us on the way up; on the return, we did not see any. The trailhead to the bay is 16km further. It's an easy 45-min to 1-hr walk to the bay through a beautiful forest.
Another day trip is Port Alice. This is a very pretty town at the end of a long inlet. It's an easy 30km drive on a paved road. In Port Alice, you will find a pleasant waterfront walk with lovely views of the inlet, a great coffee shop, a neat gift shop with local crafts, as well as other amenities. Along the way coming or going, Marble River Provincial Park has a nice 8km trail to some waterfalls should you want some exercise. The trail is not difficult and can be done in about 2 hours. When you get back to your hotel, you will have had a good day!

I feel Port Hardy is one of the nicest small towns on the island. Impeccably clean, neat, & quaint, homes,
Yards & businesses well taken care of, showing a pride of ownership. Fantastic little restaurants with great food & reasonably priced.
Friendly local people everywhere.
Well done Port Hardy, hope to visit again soon, only longer.

Port Hardy is a seaport and connection point to the ferry service to more northern islands and coastal communities along BC's coast all the way to Prince Rupert. It is small, Indigenous-run community that has considerable services and courteous and competent staff at each point of service we experienced.
