El Chalten is a cute small town in the mountains, and therefor quite expensive. I was recommended by other travelers to bring groceries bough in El Calafate, which I didn't end up doing. While groceries were a bit more expensive than in El Calafate, the restaurants are where prices are the most steep. If you don't eat or drink out, you should be able to keep the price of your trip down!

Only great if weather cooperates.

Only great if weather cooperates. But if I did research properly, the famous Fitz Roy is covered by clouds 300 days a year. During the 4 days I went, I only had one half day that was sunny (first day I arrived) and all other days were rainy and windy, making hiking dangerous. My husband got bitten by a group of stray dogs east of the river on the first day. We went to the local clinic. No care was given. Not even irrigation or antibiotics. No rabies vaccine. We were only told to report the incident to police. Entrance fee to park is 45000 peso per day per person. No advice was given by the ranger. No toilets at the beginning of trail. Trails are poorly maintained with erosion and flooding. Easy to get lost as well due to inadequate signage.

Great location for some amazing hikes, including to view Fitz Roy. Easily accessible trails which are well marked and maintained. Varying intensity of hikes from basic to highly technical. We were on the basic end of this spectrum. 'Patagonia' restaurant food and service was excellent.

I hated the fact that you have to pay for hiking - there is a 45.000,- pesos entrance fee!! Another rip off is the fee at the bus stop for using the platforms. Other than that the town is ok. Nature is great. The best restaurant in town is Tapera.

Compact town with lots of hikers walking around. You can walk to important trails from your hotel or hostal. There are many and varied restaurants and stores. Very friendly and beautiful. Condors live very close by if you like birds. Cúrcumon - restaurant has delicious vegan and vegetarian food.

Lots of hikes in the area, although you do have to pay for park entry. Weather is unpredictable, so you may find you have very windy or wet, or both conditions. There's plenty of local shops and restaurants as this is basically a town built around tourism and hiking/climbing.

We had a wonderful 3-day stay at this charming hotel. The location is absolutely superb – nestled perfectly with views of El Chalten. The hotel itself feels cozy and inviting, like a true hiking escape. The staff were super helpful and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Everything was clean, from our room to the common areas. The breakfast is simple and sufficient. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful hiking getaway with great service and location.

One of the cheapest hostels in El Chalten with incredible staff. Despite being quite busy, they were cleaning regularly and there was great atmosphere. We were going to stay just one night but ended up staying 5. They also stored our bikes while we went for a hike. The staff are what makes this place so great.
