The property was lovely, inside and out. Outside there were lots of flowers and even sheep (away from the flowers). Inside was a great combination of historic old and stylish, comfortable new. And I did enjoy all the cartoon commentaries along the hallway. I rated the location as excellent even though the hotel was a good 1.5 km from the town centre because the hotel made available a good number of bicycles, complete with helmets and bike locks. We loved having those. Also and importantly, the front desk staff were extraordinarily helpful and friendly.

Fabulous staff, spa and indoor pool. Beds are big and comfortable! It has all the comforts given its remoteness and though the cost of food is elevated, the quality was outstanding. Great water pressure and stunning vantage points. Awesome morning breakfast spread was quite the value. Even though it’s far from the center, most hotels are spread out in general and because of its location, you can get picked up last and brought back first when going on some tours :) There’s a pretty lakefront walk that will take you into town scenically if you’re up for the long walk!

We loved the landscape could be seen even from the room. Lago Argentino is beautiful, we loved the clouds, the sunset. The room was big and cosy, incl. the super comfortable bed. The restaurant of the hotel represents high quality, BUT YOU MUST reserve table in advance if you want to eat here. Nevertheless as El Calafete centre is only 10 minutes (max.) by taxi, no tragedy if you miss the reservation.

Absolutely everything. We cant recommend enough this place. The views are fantastic, the rooms and social areas are super nice, rooms are spacious and comfortable. Food is delicious (and they accommodated fantastically for a vegan and veggie); and most of all Cristina, Guille and all the staff are super helpful and friendly. Plus it’s conveniently located for trekking to Laguna los tres and other areas.

Beautiful views from our hotel room and the space is gorgeous. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, breakfast was phenomenal. We also loved the pool which is heated and got a massage which was wonderful after days of hiking. The restaurant is also delicious with a tango show to entertain. The shuttle downtown is also convenient to explore shops and food. Perfect for the few days in el Calafate.

This was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. Arriving cold and tired from a long ride on my motorcycle, I walked into a nice warm lobby filled with cheerful flowers and the smell of toast and tea. There was a person at the 24 hour desk to answer all of my questions. I could walk to whever I needed. There was even safe parking in the back of the hotel

beautiful city, lot of attractions and what to do if money is not a limitation. the glacier visits are amazing, also trips in boat and kayak 100% recommend it, single day trip to Chile is worth it too. really expensive. transportations is a limitation due lack of uber or other platforms.

El Chalten is a cute small town in the mountains, and therefor quite expensive. I was recommended by other travelers to bring groceries bough in El Calafate, which I didn't end up doing. While groceries were a bit more expensive than in El Calafate, the restaurants are where prices are the most steep. If you don't eat or drink out, you should be able to keep the price of your trip down!

Now that I have had a chance to experience Patagonia, let me offer the following: you will not find a more comprehensive place for nature than right here! As an example, with Darwin Expedition today, I saw the following (and I mean up close and personal): Magellan penguins, rockhopper penguins, elephant seals, sea lions (we needed to keep a respectful distance but we were still reasonably close). Plus we saw Commerson AND austral dolphins. This is an animal/nature lover's dream. Other cities are fine and I will not denigrate them; rather, what I'm saying is this is THE best place to see it all, and I mainly came to see the rockhoppers. Yes, it's a bit off the beaten path but well worth it.

Quite big town, with many restaurants, stores and great massage salon. If you plan to visit Perito Moreno and continue to El Chalten, it is ideal connecting point. Also very nice walk in bird reservation and many options for horseback riding. Had great experience with amazing view to the valley, hills and Lago Argentino - fully recommended.

Only great if weather cooperates.

Only great if weather cooperates. But if I did research properly, the famous Fitz Roy is covered by clouds 300 days a year. During the 4 days I went, I only had one half day that was sunny (first day I arrived) and all other days were rainy and windy, making hiking dangerous. My husband got bitten by a group of stray dogs east of the river on the first day. We went to the local clinic. No care was given. Not even irrigation or antibiotics. No rabies vaccine. We were only told to report the incident to police. Entrance fee to park is 45000 peso per day per person. No advice was given by the ranger. No toilets at the beginning of trail. Trails are poorly maintained with erosion and flooding. Easy to get lost as well due to inadequate signage.

El Calafate is the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park.

El Calafate is the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park. I have been a tour leader since 1994 and have watched this city grow from the ground up. The people are friendly and the services are good. There is an issue with stray dogs, but they are not aggressive. The city is clean and tidy. I recommend not staying in the commercial centre, as the noise from music and cars makes it impossible to rest. I suggest staying in places 10, 15, or 20 minutes away from the main shopping area. Everything is close by here, and a taxi might cost around 4 dollars.

Great location for some amazing hikes, including to view Fitz Roy. Easily accessible trails which are well marked and maintained. Varying intensity of hikes from basic to highly technical. We were on the basic end of this spectrum. 'Patagonia' restaurant food and service was excellent.
