A really great experience, highly recommended! Owners are lovely and very caring and kind, and great to talk to. The place is amazing and in a decent position to the rest of the island which helps for getting around. It has a gorgeous view overlooking the lagoon, beautiful wooden and natural theme inside the main lobby lounge area and very calming and peaceful atmosphere. The rooms are great and have what you need, and for the price this is an absolute bargain and excellent quality.

The location was on the far edge of America River but it was directly across from the water and had lovely views. The bathroom had just been updated and it had new flooring . Lovely and clean .

American river was completely different to the other towns...

American river was completely different to the other towns and offered a diiferent perspective of KI. It was particularly suited to kayaking around inlets and wetlands. Lots of water birds and walk trails as well as koalas, wallaby’s, kangaroos and possums. The Mercure restaurant was a great place to eat.

The Oyster Shop & The Shed ( run by volunteers ) both were great for a meal. There is not a big choice of activities or restaurants in the town. Central to many other places to go and visit the features of the island.

Staying in American River gave us a great opportunity to travel to other parts of the island. I’m sure if you stayed anywhere else on the island people would say that their base was fine too ! I chose The Mercure Lodge at American River for my research was the perfect place for us

American River quite in central of Kangaroo Island also...

American River quite in central of Kangaroo Island also not to far away from sealink terminal. Also just less than 30 minutes to Lavender farm bay which is the place that in my wife bucket list when visit KI.

I stayed for 4 days and I could have stayed forever!

I stayed for 4 days and I could have stayed forever! The most beautiful, pristine place I have ever been to! The wildlife, bird life and scenery was so beautiful! The only noise I heard were all the birds singing and the gentle waves….stunning

There’s literally nothing at American River except the...

There’s literally nothing at American River except the lovely oyster farm shop that has terrific seafood. If you go to Kangaroo Island, which is beautiful, stay at Kingscote. The Ozone Hotel has good food and rooms as a start.

We loved this place. My children are very keen to come back again. They loved this space especially, as the internet is fast and the TV set is of good quality. I loved the kitchen and appliances and enjoyed cooking. It is a stunning location. Our US friends who stayed with us escaped to the hotel, as they found this place too cold. The heating is only in the living room. We still enjoyed it, as we prefer to sleep in cool rooms. Kids loved splashing in the bathtub.

A beautiful and charming cottage in an excellent location. It's situated just across from the bay where you might see dolphins swimming by. American River is a quiet little place with friendly locals up for a chat. The 3 bedrooms accommodated us and our 2 kids well. The beds were very comfortable and the bed linen was high quality. The cottage was very clean upon our arrival and the kitchen had everything we needed.

Never mind the beds, location and comfort etc… the staff at this hotel were just exceptional and helped us through an exceptionally difficult situation when we were stranded on the island because of a bushfire. They could not have been kinder or more helpful going out of their way to mitigate the stressful situation. Thanks to all of them
