The township is fairly busy on weekends, even in off season.
The township is fairly busy on weekends, even in off season. So plan ahead for food and coffee. Expect lots of traffic, as the main street in is a bit of a bottleneck. Its a bit quieter during the week. The town has a relaxed and very family friendly vibe and the river beaches make for good paddling.
Its a pleasant drive to other beach towns, like Queenscliffe or Torquay, and there are good shops to peruse. Try out Bowlz for delicious Smoothies or Choose your own Poke Bowl. Very filling and good value for good food or Green Eggs and Ham and a good coffee at Starfish Bakery.

Barwon Heads is a beautiful spot at the end of the Barwon...
Barwon Heads is a beautiful spot at the end of the Barwon River and near the Heads. It is so peaceful to walk along the river or across the bridge to the ocean beach. Take a drive down 13 mile beach road and find loads of isolated beaches you can walk down and surf. Wonderful place, can't really beat it. Good cafe across the road from the Barwon Hotel and Tommy Gunns gave us a fantastic meal.

I enjoyed restaurant on property but only open 4nights a week for dinner. 13th beach too far to walk. Very slow book in as short staffed so got in after 2.30p.m . Power was off for 6 hrs so never opened up at all that day. They should have generator for big club.

Pleasant little town, with good pub, cafes, restaurants, a small but useful supermarket and lots of clothes shops (!).
Our stay was between Christmas and New Year. The town and beach were very crowded.

This is why I come out to smaller coastal towns! with a beautiful selection of quality food, good vegatarian options, yummy alcohol-free drinks too..
So much to see and do, I prefer to stay at the local Barwon Heads Hotel when i see a show there - better than city venues - better staff - better crowds... just better all round.

It felt like & looked like a much much less frenectic...
It felt like & looked like a much much less frenectic Hastings St, Noosa Heads. I thoroughly enjoyed Annies Cafe & Deli.
It was Nostalgic for me @ a young 72 yo from Mton Peninsula to visit a special seaside town where my parents fished ( from Hawthorn) & camped being nature & animal lovers approx 1947 b 4 my brother & I as post war Baby Boomers were born !
I Understand why - its Primarily IDYLLIC , without ine knowing why !
Hence the famous TV show with David Wenhan!

Accommodation was fine, comfortable and being separate from main complex meant good privacy. Buffet Breakfast was good, but if weather had not been fine, walking from Accommodation Cabin to Restaurant in main building would have been an issue. Overall location. was great, and enabled a pleasant morning walk from the location to the 13th Beach surf club via the golf course. Only a few kilometres from the main area of Barwon Heads.

Liked everything, including value, location and room(s). Our one bedroom apartment (separately-roomed double and single beds) at the front of the hotel overlooked both the Barwon River and to a lesser extent the ocean. Everything worked, no noise, very comfortable. Next to bus stop.

Great self contained units! Very clean and modern. Addition of dishwasher was cool. Bed was a little hard but otherwise great. Lots of room. Shame the restaurant doesn’t operate as had to drive into town to eat but highly recommend Barwon heads hotel for dinner.

Beautiful apartment, well situated just 5 mins walk to centre of Barwon heads. Decor is stylish and comfortable. Host went over and above to ensure all needs were met, breakfast and treats on arrival in fully stocked fridge. Beds super comfy.
