The hotel has been extensively renovated but kept the character charm. The rooms are very quiet (even with our loud family) and the wrap around balcony is stunning!

Very thoughtful to leave the added gift of a Devonshire tea. this was much appreciated as I had only eaten a small amount at the function I attended on Friday evening. Very nice breakfast cereal provided, with a good amount of milk. Very comfortable furnishings.

Walk around the river and cross the longest suspension bridge to see the huge variety of birds. Beautiful old buildings and a wonderful secondhand/antiques shop FULL of memories and treasures. Well worth a trip to Northam!

Northam has a rather rundown presentation, especially up...

Northam has a rather rundown presentation, especially up near the station where there are a lot of empty shops. On the plus side, Northam has a lot of interesting buildings and it is well-worth taking the time to find them. Do spend an hour or more at BILYA KOORT BOODJA, the Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environmental Knowledge (https://www.bilyakoortboodja.com/), on the banks of the Avon River, which is one of the best of it's kind (not just Australian aboriginal) I have experienced anywhere. Then there's the old railway station, which is also a museum - even though it isn't open at the moment, the station building itself is well worth a visit. The old station is historic. Bilya Koort Boodja is new. And 'in-between' is a great example of Brutalist architecture, which is now occupied by the WA Department of Communities.

The Rec Hotel was a great place to stay.

The Rec Hotel was a great place to stay. It was big and spacious. The service was great and the meals were fairly priced and delicious. They also had live music which was a bonus. Didn't really see much of the town. But what we did see was fairly quiet for a Saturday night. There a plenty of shops to visit if you need anything for your stay. People there are friendly.

We booked into the Rec hotel for a hot air ballooning experience. We spent about $300 over the bar. Our main meals were disappointing. I ordered garlic prawns ($27ish) 6 beautifully cooked prawns beside maybe 1/4 cup of fluffy rice and best guess 2 tablespoons of garlic sauce. All components were awesome but together, not enough sauce Entrees size for.main meal price.

Northam has a lot to offer for tourists.

Northam has a lot to offer for tourists. Aboriginal history information as well as European settler information. Set on the River Avon there is the annual Avon River descent in August when the river should be at its fullest for the adventurous to test their skills in various water activities. Good base for exploring the Wheatbelt area. Dome Coffee House attached to the Farmers Home Hotel makes for good relaxing drinks and all meals.

Northam is a lovely small town, locater within easy driving distance of the historic towns, Toodyay and York. An hour or so drive from the city of Perth makes it an ideal place to stay and just commute into the city.

Stunning hotel. Rooms were clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. Perfect location near the river, and the Temperance bar and Dome Cafe attached to the hotel were both great. Staff were so friendly and helpful.
