A perfect Southern Tablelands escape Taralga completely won us over. It's a genuinely beautiful heritage town, quiet, unhurried, and full of character. Evening walks along the country roads with our dogs were a highlight in themselves, with barely a car in sight and stunning autumn skies. The Laggan Village Markets were a lovely start to Saturday, great coffee, a proper egg and bacon roll and homemade cakes from the volunteer stalls. From there we explored Crookwell's vintage stores before a scenic country drive back through the tablelands via Laggan pub for a very generous steak sandwich and ginger beer. Dinner at the Argyle Inn was outstanding, three courses of beautifully executed local produce in a stunning restored heritage pub. The Taralga Hotel served up a solid, no-fuss pub meal for Friday night. Both are well worth a visit. On Sunday we headed to Wombeyan Caves for a guided tour which was absolutely spectacular. 430-million-year-old limestone formations that genuinely take your breath away, make sure you book in advance as spots are limited If you're looking for a weekend that actually slows you down, Taralga delivers.
