Location was good for the sightseeing we did. The bus stop for the main line was near the supermarket but we were never able to find the place to buy tickets for the bus. Restaurants were only about 2 blocks away as well as a supermarket. Room was a bit smaller than I thought but adequate. It was clean and overall looked good. They offered complimentary water, coca cola, candy, and apples which was great. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Truly a great choice when visiting Canberra. Convenient location and excellent confort in this recent hotel where all rooms even the smallest are fully equiped like a studio apartment one would live in for longer stays. Not to forget a very good value for the price given the global quality level of the hotel. Highly recommended.

Too much fatty/sugary food not for diet conscious like us. Would have liked more greens or cottage cheese, olives or smoked salmon. Tea could have been leaves, not a bag.

The hotel is at an excellent location, with everything from restaurants and shops right there on a short walk. The hotel promised to be pet friendly and they were not only friendly but amazingly friendly! Fully recommended to travel with your pets as both the room and facilities in general are great. They had some goodies in the entrance to welcome the pets (treats, wet wipes, doggy bags) that were also great!

FAQs about hotels in Canberra

Culture, Politics and Military Mix

A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.

Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.

The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.

The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.

Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

I have made many visits to Canberra over the years!

I have made many visits to Canberra over the years! This was the first time by public transport. Very short sighted that there is no train service to Yass, or Goulbourn. If I have to rely on busses for future visits I will not be visiting. A capital city that doesn’t welcome its constituents except by air of bus is poor!

Nice place made better by our accommodation.

Nice place made better by our accommodation. A tad on the cold side though. Both the new Parliament hose and the old parliament house were facinating and the food at the cafe at the royal mint was fantastic and priced really well. The Australian War Memorial was mind boggling!!! We spent 5 hrs there and could have spent a whole second day just to see everything. All of the staff at the attractions we visited were awesome.

The visit was purely to attend the AWM with former military colleagues We spent two days and the consensus was that it was insufficient so we plan to return in 12 to 18 months that will be longer and spend a minimum of another 3 days at the AWM . It is truly a fitting tribute and memorial to those whose service should be immortalised

Once you visit the museums nothing else worth seeing, currently looks like a building site, light rail that is finished goes nowhere, bus service does not run often enough. Country town that has come on hard times, no real reason too visit.

What stood out the best was our experiencing the most helpful staff, every single one of them, that we encountered throughout our entire six days! Never intrusive, Down-to-Earth, friendly, honest and authentic! This Ramada team provided us with prompt and thorough service! We felt comfortable throughout our stay, in every instance that we have had in our travels! We will consider return to this Ramada Hotel, next time we visit Canberra. Happy to recommend this place to others, at anytime!

Wish we could’ve stayed for longer! The room and hotel was so clean, spacious and nice. It was in a great location, close to the shops and restaurants. Didn’t get a chance to enjoy the pool or gym but we did check it out and they looked great. The staff were really kind and helpful. They really went out of their way to give great service. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back if we find ourselves in Canberra again!

We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure. We liked the fact that the hotel was a heritage building. We loved the on-site pub. It was very good value. The hotel was about a 20-minute walk from the city centre. Overall, we would have enjoyed the location and Canberra more if we had rented a car. The tourists sites are very spread out. It would also have been nice to visit some places outside of the city.
