Lovely property, we travelled with my elderly father and he had the accessibility room and slept really well in the main building and had no complaints. The staff were excellent, room lovely and clean, breakfast was a full English and eggs Benedict, both cooked perfectly.

You won't find a better location in the lake district, with not only a splendid view over Ullswater right from the hotel itself, but also fine walks nearby. The rooms are more luxurious than the exterior might suggest. They are extremely comfortable and beautifully appointed. The public areas of the hotel are filled with character and haven't been overly restored to please spoiled travelers. Overall, a place to return to happily.

The host welcomed us & showed us to our beautifully furnished room with all you could need for a short stay (tea & coffee facilities, toaster, little fridge to keep things cool, Wi-Fi & tv). Spotlessly clean room and bathroom- and such a comfortable bed :) Also very short drives to some lovely places to visit.

Lovely, well-kept village, locals were friendly, and you can even get petrol from the cute 70's pumps. There is a lovely pub with really nice food, however, we turned up at 5.15 to eat on a Thurs. Although some tables were reserved for 7.45 pm, they would not accommodate us, as a community-based pub with probably hundreds of shareholders. I wonder how happy they would be at losing another £100 spent on food and drinks for the sake of cleaning a table. We found the host a bit on the grumpy side, with an "absolutely no" when requesting a table. We had eaten there only a day or so previously, almost at the end of service, so we were lucky to get a table. Please book, or else you will be going home disappointed, as there is nowhere else and definitely no Uber Eats, the nearest chippy is 3.5 miles away and a CO-OP across the road from it, for all your needs. Cyclists would love Brampton; there is a coffee shop which sells local farm foods, but not massively stocked, it also has a hub with air and a place to do your repairs, etc. There are two lovely waterfalls to keep you mesmerised for a while.

The road (4 miles) to Bampton from Shap is extremely narrow with few passing places here and there and has to be driven with great care because you can meet buses, lorries and farm vehicles. The road (2 miles) from Bampton to Haweswater is equally narrow and has to be driven with great care.

The area is quiet, accessed by narrow lanes all worth exploring . The hamlet of Bampton sold the cheapest petroleum for miles. Locals were delightful. Be prepared to travel for 30-50 minutes to reach other key locations in The Lakes.

If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk at the bottom of the reservoir which snakes around a peninsula and gives unbelievable views. Eat dinner at the Hotel during your stay the food and services are top quality. Weather permitting take time to have a drink on the seats at the front/side of the Hotel and just enjoy the peace.
