I live not too far away and visit Brecon often but not to stay. There's a lot of history to be found if someone is interested and the cathedral is a must. Abergavenny is only a short driving distance too and a visit to the Norman Castle of the da Braose family from the 1100s . The Tythe Barn and the tapestry made by the ladies of the town is also a sight to behold. The canal nearby in Brecon town is good for a walk and a park by the river. Morrison's is in the town so easy to get any shopping requirements. If someone has a car a visit can be made to the Penderyn whisky factory towards Merthyr and the reservoirs.

Loved the canal and the Theatre.
Loved the canal and the Theatre. People were very friendly and helpful. Very busy in the town area. Lots of traffic. Off season would be quieter. We were in a heatwave. Cooler weather would have made a difference.

Brecon is situated in the Brecon Beacons amongst the most beautiful countryside imaginable.
Do not be in a hurry to be or go anywhere. Embrace the slower pace of living here. It is surrounded by outstanding natural beauty.
The shops are mostly privately owned which is a refreshing change.
Do not expect a McDonald, Burger King or KFC.
Expect to see rolling hills where sheep roam free, 20mph through every village, cyclists, single lane windy roads, nature at its finest.

Brecon has more than enough attractions to fill up a long...
Brecon has more than enough attractions to fill up a long weekend. The tourist information publishes walking guides within the city taking people around all the major attractions, castle, cathedral, historical buildings, museums, art, riverbank, canal, etc.
Local hostelries abound. You are never far from a pub, restaurant or café/coffee shop.
For the more adventurous the Brecon Beacons car parks are a short drive, 10-20 minutes, from the town

If you like the great outdoors and beautiful scenery, this is the place for you. we especially loved walking up Pen-Y Fan. But dont forget smaller mountains such as Skirrid not too far away. The Brecon Mountain Railway trip was Brilliant and Tal -y Bont an ideal place to visit nearby

The Cathedral was interesting and in a beautiful location.
The Cathedral was interesting and in a beautiful location. I loved the museum (located in the old courthouse) and impressed by the new complex, including the library, built around it. The art collection there is very special. The regimental museum was also very interesting, and moving. I think I've already mentioned the excellent Italian restaurant; and I also discovered a very good second-hand bookshop.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful B&B nestled in the stunning nature of the Brecon Beacons. The place was peaceful and surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Our room was lovely, spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were absolutely perfect—friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Highly recommended!

The Beacons Guest House is located very close to the town centre, there is good on site parking to the rear, which is easy to find. The Guest House is also very comfortable and clean.
They offer a nice cooked breakfast and other choices.
The staff could not be more friendly and helpful.

Spacious room with very comfy large bed and fab view of Honddu and the Brecon Beacons. Friendly staff and a good breakfast, if limited in choice. Close to town amenities; easily walkable. Good value.
