The place was lovely, and Anne and Chris were wonderful. There was a bit of a plumbing issue with the shower, but they immediately called a local plumber to get it fixed. The location is quite remote, with lots of wind and rain, but we were fully expecting that—as you should if you are staying on the Isle of Lewis. Great places to walk, and don’t miss Bosta Beach!

Carloway is a great location.

Carloway is a great location. It has a well stocked community grocery store which spared us the 40 minute journey to Stornoway and also has many artists and crafts studios to visit. There are numerous historic sites such as the dramatic and world famous Callanish Standing Stones and the ‘black houses’ at Gearrannan. However, best of all for us were the beaches to be found nearby. We will never forget the stunning beach at Dal Beag with its beautiful carpets of wildflowers and crumbling croft ruins. We also had to make the longer trip to Harris to see Luskentrye which lived up to its reputation of being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Carloway is a great base for exploring Lewis and Harris - we covered all our bucket list without rushing. A lot of main sites of interest are very close. Forget shopping at Tesco or CooP in Stornaway - Carloway has a Community Shop which is really well stocked and open 6 days until 18.30 and benefits locals not multi-nationals. Suggest working out what you want to see and be flexible with weather as to what to do each day.

Great access to all west coast sites and areas. Lovely garden setting with lots of room for our dog to exercise. Front terrace is a perfect place for afternoon and evening relaxation with comfortable loungers available. Kitchen is comprehensively equipped for all levels of food preparation and cooking.

Carloway is a lovely quiet village , very clean , and have the blackhouse village 5 mins away down the road , walking through the blackhouse village down to shore , getting lovely photos of sunsets and wild skies .. Just a lovely place to chill out of be outdoors

We have visited the island yearly so we know a car is a must...

We have visited the island yearly so we know a car is a must but haven’t previously stayed in Carloway; it’s a great, peaceful location for visiting local amenities such as the blackhouse village and excellent gallery as well as the Blue Pig Studio which sells handmade art and gifts and donkeys to visit! It is near to fantastic beaches such as Dalmore and Dalbeg and not too far from attractions around the rest of the island such as The Callanish Stones, Eoropie Playpark and beach and the town of Stornaway.
