Charged fully for a stay that DID NOT take place, despite giving the hotel directly notice of cancellation TWO WEEKS prior. Still awaiting a refund despite being informed by Booking.com that a refund was due. Hotel blame Booking.com, Booking.com blame hotel!!!!!!!!!

Threave nature reserve is wonderful to walk around and...
Threave nature reserve is wonderful to walk around and observe wildlife. Gatehouse has great eating and drinking places and the SPAR has everything you might need. Castle Douglas has good food shopping. Moss Yard beach is a must for families and dog walkers. The Raiders Road forest drive is fabulous as it passes the Mare’s Tail , the deer park and Otters falls along the way , a magical drive by the river. A beautiful rural unspoilt area of West Scotland.

There is a lot of history in the area, the town is very picturesque. It is close enough to Dumfries to do various days out as well as interesting places close by without the hustle and bustle of a bigger city centre.

Very good choice of independent shops of all different types
Loch just after the town was beautiful
Parking is on the street and spaces available. We have a blue badge and we were able to access the town very easily
Lots of different eateries, from the traditional chippy (excellent!) to little bijou cafes for coffee and cake
Seems to have a very good bus service
Most places are on the main street so easily accessible for most

A great town and wonderful surrounding area.
A great town and wonderful surrounding area. The Galloway forest is fantastic. We had a great curry at The Jewell in the Crown opposite the main car park. Make sure you check out the enormous wicker bull statue. If you go to the Red Kite feeding station do not turn up at 1pm as it opens. I would suggest 2.30 at the earliest as the birds do not start feeding for a long time after the food is put out.

Castle Douglas is a town, as opposed to a village, and as such hac#s all sorts of shops. You do not get furniture shops in a tourist town, there are several independant shops. If you are in need of retail therapy this is a good place to start. By syaying here you are in a central position for visiting the rest of South-west Scotland.

Lovely countryside location with beautiful views and many nearby spots for paddle boarding, canoeing and generally exploring the area while close enough to local shopping facilities in Castle Douglas to make a longer stay like mine super comfortable. Good free Wi-Fi.
Although staying B&B my hosts Lindsey and Jimmy provided extra facilities so I could easily prepare meals whenever I desired. Juicy very tasty local sausages. Good Coffee!

The cottage is secluded in a peaceful location, perfect for relaxing yet close enough to Castle Douglas for shopping, cafes and pubs etc. The welcome goodies were lovely and really appreciated. Spacious sitting room and all bedrooms are generous too. The decor is understated yet very appealing. Garden is well kept and great sitting out if the weather allows.

The location was excellent for us as it was very close to Threave Gardens and the nature reserve. The King's Arms Hotel next door served a really good evening meal. The apartment was a good size for 4 people and comfortable for our needs as we were only staying 2 nights.

Lovely modern room, king bed, very clean, Breakfast in the morning was excellent. We ate in the restaurant for dinner, large menu, food was really good as was the service. I would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel if looking for a lovely comfortable place to stay.
