By far the best hotel I have stayed at, it was beyond my expectations. The building itself is elegant whilst keeping the original features and charm. The rooms were like apartments huge, the front of house staff and chef went above and beyond even gave our pooch a sausage for breakfast and lots of fuss. The food on the evening and breakfast was plenty, delicious and lots of choice. Loved this place and will definitely be back again.

The location was perfect for starting our Coast to Coast walk. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good and reasonably priced. We had a family room which was very large and comfortable.

Wonderful breakfast included. Nice dinner menu and good meal. Lady at front desk was very helpful with all our questions. Was what your image of an English manor would be.

The White Mare was an excellent stop in Beckermet. We were there to visit family, who lived right around the corner. Our family recommended we stay there and it was perfect. While we normally just get one room for the 4 of us, we split into two rooms and the price was reasonable. The rooms were nicely decorated, clean, and had an excellent tea selection! We booked a night in the restaurant for our family, all 7 of us, and it was an outstanding evening. Excellent service, wonderful food, great prices, and a beautiful location. We will certainly make the White Mare our destination for visiting family in Beckermet, and in fact, it was so convenient that we'd like to make an extended visit next time. We also think its a great location to "get away" from the larger villages, perfect for walking St Bees Head/Fleswick Bay, then returning for a cozy dinner in the restaurant. We had one room above the pub and it didn't seem too loud, as the pub closes around 9pm.

Overall disappointed with the state we found the property in for the price we paid. Good WIFI, Tv reception and decent range of Kitchen appliances. Poor level of cleanliness, dirty smeared glass panes in front room door, stained carpet, light bulb hanging out of fitting and 2 not working downstairs and some not working upstairs, horrible large brown streaked stain on ceiling/wall of downstairs cloaks, no toilet rolls provided although the booking advert said they were.

We stayed at the property due to meeting up with our granddaughter & partner to meet our first new great grandson. We were able to take our other daughter her partner & their son & dog. We didn't wander far we only went to Keswick one day however there is plenty to see & do there we just did'nt bother as like I say the reason was to meet up with part of our family.

Cleator Moor is very quiet & peaceful.

Cleator Moor is very quiet & peaceful. For the active tourist, there's plenty to see and do. Walks are well-marked and as long, or short, as you like. Most shops & takeaways are arranged along 1 road. There are areas that are uncultivated, promoting natural habitats. The area is attractive and appealing to the amateur photographer. The bus service seems reliable & regular. A local leisure centre contains a swimming pool (book before going). I strongly recommend a trip to Cockermouth, Whitehaven and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. O'Hallorans provided a decent dining /cocktail experience.

The town is superbly located to get the most of the southern lakes as well as the nearby sea. A very nice quiet place to relax after walks in the beautiful countryside where a breathtaking lake nestled between rolling hills and majestic peaks is never far away.
