Whitehaven was built around the Harbour and has a fantastic maritime and industrial history with loads of information available on its past. Mining, Rum and much more. Loads of great places to see, shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes, museums, hotels etc. The Harbour and Marine were really interesting, we watched the great Sea Lock letting Boats in and out. We came to visit Five 9 Five Motorcycles in King Street, which stocks Moto Girl, Merlin and other good brands of Motorcycle Kit. The Marchon Club regularly hosts Bands. The Three Tuns is an old fashioned Rock/Biker Bar. The Bransty Arch (Wetherspoons) does good cheap food & drink. Plenty of Busses and 2 Railway Stations. Whitehaven is on the A595 which is the main road going through West Cumbria.

It was Monday so not all of Whitehaven front was open in the evening, so it was Fish and chips for dinner, then into the dreaded Wetherspoons for a few tipples. Wetherspoons was very good value for money and reasonable though. Whitehaven looks clean and tidy and not too run down. Taxis were available at a reasonable price and generally good facilities.

The Harbour and Marina are amazing, there is loads of local history to learn and places to explore: e.g. The Beacon Museum, The Rum Story and Coal Mining. Lots of places to eat and drink. The Bransty Arch (Wetherspoons) is a great place for cheap food, beer & coffee. The Pedler is more up market, both in the old Whitehaven Bus Station. Plenty of old Pubs. Harbourside Restaurants. Good road, rail and bus transport links. Interesting Shops around the old town like Michael Moon's Bookshop and Five 9 Five Motorcycle Clothing on King Street and Dixons Department Store.

A very lovely little historic harbour town, fascinating sea lock, loved The Harbourmaster cafe, and The Edge. Lots of places to eat dinner, have a coffee and look at the harbour. Lovely seaside and countryside around.

the hotel is in corkicle not whitehaven. it was hard to cross the street from the bus--dangerous. the hotel did not take 50 pound notes and I was told to go to a gas station nearby to get change. finally they took the 50 pound note. this is supposed to be a first class hotel I was told it was a 10 min walk from ravensglass train station to castle--wrong. it was about a 40 minute walk--not good with a backpack. the flowers around hotel were pretty. and the room was very nice and so was the gal who checked me in. also, there would have been a charge to drop off my backpack but I ate and then checked in?????
