Peaceful location with a lovely view of sheep in the fields behind. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The Continental breakfast was just amazing. Separate breakfast area with the room. With a mini fridge and toaster. Had everything from juice and cereals to fruit and yoghurt, croissants, bread and fruit breads to fruit bars and granola. Perfect stay.

It's a very small village but you can eat out at "the Baa" (...

It's a very small village but you can eat out at "the Baa" (good pizza, recommendable) or at the Derwent Arms. And it is very quiet. One can't get groceries here, but at towns nearby such as Consett or Blanchland. There is hardly any public transport, so a car is quite necessary.

There was very little to like!

There was very little to like! The photographs on the website are misleadingly flattering . Certainly the room we were in was basic at best. It was clean but uncomfortable. Staff were helpful enough and tried to show how the TV worked and put heating on. Carpets on stairs were dirty and torn. Doors were dirty. It seemed odd to stay in a licensed premises with no one living in the pub . I would not recommend this place to anyone.
