Our stay was most enjoyable. In addition to an excellent breakfast, our morning meal was made all the better by discussions on the Orkney islands, background on sites worth seeing and information that made our exploration of the islands easier. The location served us well for visiting a number of historic sites and the capital, Kirkwall. Our room was supplied by essentials most B & Bs don't provide. If we were returning to the Orkney islands, we'd welcome the opportunity to return Orkney Bed and Whisky.

Amazing and interesting place! It used to be a pub, so there's a bar in the living room. Host provided peat charcoal to burn in the little fireplace. Large "commercial" kitchen that used to support the pub, so don't expect a stylish residential kitchen. That said, there are two refrigerators and lots of prep space. Bathroom is very minimal, but my grown daughters LOVED staying here with the neighbor's animals straying into our yard, the dart board in the living room, and the beautiful rustic surroundings outside of the city. Everyone got their own bed, and there was lots of room to spread out for a family of 5. Would highly recommend staying here if you want a taste of local color (**Note: if you're looking for a polished hotel or professional bed and breakfast, this is not the place.**)

Lovely and quiet village with all the essentials but lacking evening meal options during the week. However Kirkwall is only 6 miles away with restaurants, takeaways and larger shops. Stenness and Brodgar are on the doorstep so really handy for early morning or late evening visits as alternative to the busier times. A great base from which to visit all of the sites of the North and West coasts. There is a good walk up the hill behind the village that takes in some modern stone pillars and a much older, more interesting Neolithic cairn. It's also possible to follow the marked St Magnus trail over the brow to get a view not only over Finstown but to the coast on the other since of the hill.

Finstown is a nice little town about 10 minutes from Kirkwall. It is ideally located to visit some of the island's premier attractions. It is quiet and peaceful but still within a very easy drive to Kirkwall.

Finstown is centrally located for touring.

Finstown is centrally located for touring. It has a general store and a pub although I didn’t visit the pub. For electric car drivers, it has a car park with a couple of chargers which is handy. There’s also a good walk up the hill to Cuween cairn.

Make your adventure to Orkney and it's landscape with a comfortable place to relax and enjoy in Finstown after a day exploring this area. Once you exit NorthLink Ferries, stay right onto A965 towards Kirkwall to Finstown a small community with simple ammenities that serve the locals and you should you choose.

Location was excellent for the major tourist sites.

Location was excellent for the major tourist sites. It was only 7-8min from Kirwell including its major supermarkets and was on the western side of Kirkwell which made it closer to the Ness of Brodgar, Stromness, Skara Brae and the Houton ferry to the Scapa Flow museum.

There is not much in Finstown itself, but our stay at Butterfly Lodge was excellent. The Pod has everything you could need for a short stay. The bed was comfortable, bathroom excellent and the sofa was comfortable. Kirkwall, a short distance away was a marvel, although Stromness was a little less than we expected. A visit to Scara Brae is essential, it is a wonderful place.
