The location, the food and the very laid-back vibe. No frills. TV in the room, just an amazing view to look at - the stars at night were just as impressive as the mountains! The menu might be considered limited to some, but the food was amazing with daily specials and was impossibly good value.

My husband and I came for an overnight stay with our golden retriever. The room was very comfortable and clean. The setting was absolutely beautiful, a lovely coffee shop across the road selling cakes and ice cream with an outdoor seating area. A fabulous walk alongside the stream which brings you out at a lovely shop and Cafe, with amazing scenery along the way. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal at the Inn and a gorgeous breakfast. Sheep wondering around grazing on the lawn infront of the pub what more could you ask for? 😃

What Guests Said About Great Langdale:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

This is a location for committed hill walkers.

This is a location for committed hill walkers. If you don't enjoy walking uphill this will only require a quick trip for a few flat walks to take some photos. For the hill walker this is an amazing base. For a rest day you can take the boat from Ambleside down to Bowness and have an icecream with the tourist hordes or go to Grasmere to visit the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage. Driving in the lanes is not for the faint-hearted - you need to understand how to use passing places and anticipate them, be able to reverse confidently, be patient and drive calmly. A small car is ideal!

Great place to go out of season.

Great place to go out of season. Excellent mountain walking, on bus route to Ambleside where there is plenty to discover to suit all tastes, including water sports & boat trips. Good walkers bars where you can warm up and dry out. However, there are many other places to go in The Lakes if you want to climb big hills, so not right or fair to favour one area over another.

Breathtakingly beautiful!

Breathtakingly beautiful! A joy to be walking in the hills, enjoying God’s outstanding creation! We stayed at the spectacular New Dungeon Ghyll and from there, we started our first wild camping adventure near Stickle Tarn as a married couple.

Probably the most scenic part of the Lake District.

Probably the most scenic part of the Lake District. Plenty of places to stay or eat. The road is quite narrow in places which means it can be slow going at times (especially weekends) . Bus service every 2 hours along the valley. Car Parks a plenty but can fill up very quickly, especially at weekends.

Beautiful traditional hotel deep in the heart of the magnificent Langdale Valley. Magical spot. It is also a great base for exploring the wider Lake District. A 1/2 hourly bus connects the hotel to Ambleside and beyond via a stop right outside the hotel entrance.
