We chose to stay at Ebberley Escapes because it is near St. Giles in the Wood, the village where my wife's great grandparents were married and to visit the RHS Garden Rosemoor. We came with another couple. I don't think we could have made a better choice. The accommodations were excellent. The rooms were well appointed, and the beds were very comfortable. The property is in a quiet location making for a good night's sleep. Kevin and Maggie were great hosts. The breakfasts were so good. Everything was "farm fresh," particularly the chicken and duck eggs that came from the on-property hens and ducks. There is a nice garden behind the main house that is ideal for relaxing, and a larger field with a walking path, perfect for an early morning stroll. On our second evening, it was raining and we didn't want to drive out for dinner, so we brought in snacks, beer and wine for a relaxing evening with our friends. Kevin and Maggie brought glasses, dishes, silverware out to the dining room for our little party. Ebberley Escapes was the perfect place for our weekend in Devon.

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Hotel immensely. It was a great location for visiting Rosemoor gardens. Free parking was appreciated. Friendly staff check in process. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was amazing, the best in our 9 week journey. Easy walk into town for great fish meal at Mr Chips.

Great Torrington was very easy to walk around.

Great Torrington was very easy to walk around. Unfortunately we were there from Sunday to Wednesday when either places are closed or closed from 1pm. Our main reason for visting this town was easy access to RHS Rosemoor and Dartington Crystal, both these places were excellent and well worth a visit

Nothing was open to eat in , and only a few Takeaway and most not open on a Tuesday! Luckily Cavalier Inn rescued us and let us get a takeaway from the Chinese opposite ( Chef Lin, cash only) great tasty food) and provide plates etc for us to eat in pub, star service from pub a and great food . The m and s allowed us to buy goodies to take back j our room and watch TV. Plan your trip here carefully

We loved Great Torrington it has a lovely atmosphere under the skin of it, as a close and friendly community. It felt very safe. The multi function arts centre including cinema is lovely A rare small town with the butchers, bakers and candlestick maker - let alone the hardware shop and 2 green grocers : so many facilities which modern times have deprived us of. The view point outlook is stunning and the market area is interesting. The Castle Cafe and gardens are well worth a visit. Close to Tarka Trail (with cycle hire) and old Torrington railway station. RHS Rosemoor is very nearby. We tended to eat at home with so much choice of quality produce : tended to travel to other locations for eating out as part of holiday scene rather than a comment upon local pubs etc which we did not get to trying. The local fish and chip shop is very good though. Bideford is nearest larger town - a straightforward journey with Appledore and Westwood Ho! just beyond.

Several small super markets and a petrol station for essentials and a good selection of other shops and including takeaways, cafe's and a pub or two. Quite a lot of history for those interested. There were great views of the surrounding area
