My daughter and I were taking the ferry the next day and the check in was excellent - we were given divided rooms so we had two separate beds and we had a very comfortable stay.

We stayed in Harwich only to catch the 9 am ferry to Hoek van Holland. Harwich has its old bits and its shady bits. I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving a fully packed car overnight at some easily accessible parking spot. If you want to visit the beach, go to Doverscourt beach: free parking all day! Lovely beach, and you will find fossils if you search hard enough. Harwich isn't worth a prolonged visit in itself but does have a few nice surprises up its sleeve.

Harwich is much underrated as it is a particularly historic and attractive area with great views and local pubs. On the other hand, its somewhat unfashionable image and relatively remote location mean it rarely gets overcrowded - even on sunny summer holiday days.

Harwich as a place is fair, but I would guess for most of us we are there for a ferry or cruise ship. In other words docks not the seaside. It may be a better place than we realise as we can only comment on its convenience for us in a useful starting point for visiting the continent

Samuel Pepys is perfect for when i stay overnight when i travel to Holland on the ferry the next day. It is 3 minutes to Morrisons Supermarket where i can fill up with petrol, and then the ferry terminal is a further 2 minutes away. Brilliant location

The people are so welcoming from the international station to Parkston,, a lady let me know directions.. even gave me a lift to where I was staying.. a boy in the morning led me to where I needed to go,, the areas nice for walks What I don't like about the town is.. locals in Dover court.. there doesn't seem to be anyone normal.. they come across rude.. weird and there's a lot of drugs in town.

If you love history Harwich is an absolute treat.

If you love history Harwich is an absolute treat. The historic centre is tiny - Harwich is tiny!! - but there is so much to see and do. Plus, depending on the time of year, you can always get the foot ferry to Shotley or Felixstowe.

The hotel is situated close to the Harwich ferry port (5 minute drive) which makes it a convenient place to stay pre-boarding a trip to the mainland. The private parking is closed with a heavy duty gate with a code, so our car and its contents were kept perfectly safe. Coffee is provided, linnens were clean. A small but servicable shower room. The door lock system needed a bit of figuring out but once the door is locked, it feels safe to stay in the admittedly a bit shady part of Harwich.

It was so cosy & quirky. Felt very homely, kitchen had everything you needed, tea, coffee, even a little bottle of milk in fridge. Although no radiators, there were heaters in every room, soon warmed up. The fire in the lounge was cosy too. We watched a DVD from the vast collection. Lots of pictures/paintings, every one seemed to tell a tale. Very near to Harwich, not much there but enough. Next door to a shop too.

I’ve stayed in a few places when visiting family in Harwich and this is by far the nicest. Overlooking a park and views over the ocean. Very peaceful. Welcoming hosts and a delicious cooked breakfast. My room was extremely comfortable, the hosts really have thought of everything and it’s the little touches that show their attention to detail. Slept well as the bed was super comfortable. Will definitely return.

A type of inn, in the heart of old Harwich within walking distance of everything there is to see. Excellent and filling breakfast served complimentary, both continental and full english available. Lovely staff. Comfortable bedding and nice to have a firm desk.
