We enjoyed our time in Hawkshead and Grasmere, although Ambleside was slightly disappointing. We visited Beatrix Potter house and took a Windermere cruise for which we benefitted from 20% off for going on a Friday reducing cost from £35pp to £28. Be careful on the roads as they are very narrow.

I thought it was going to be full of tourists, but was surprised at how quiet it was. The village is beautiful and has that untouched for centuries feel about it, with lots of footpaths and roads to wander off for hours to discover new places.I found a hidden gem called Gooseyfoot Tarn, where there is a stone seat placed, situated near Hawkshead Moor. It was difficult to walk away from peace and tranquility. Will return again in the not too distant future.

Hawkshead is a wonderful historic village with very little modern buildings to spoil the ambiance ( what there is are built to fit in with the older buildings). Views of the Lakeland scenery from all around the village is magnificent and is an excellent base for walking. The locals are all very friendly. Everywhere very safe. Where else would you find a cabinet on the street that you can open and buy cakes and puddings without the fear of someone stealing all the cakes? ( wouldn’t last 10 minutes where I live). Doesn’t have a lake of its own but nearby Windermere, Coniston, Esthwaite Water and Tarn how’s all easy to reach. Good selection of accommodation. Good pubs ( with restaurants) and separate restaurants/ bistros.

small well preserved village 20 minutes on the bus from Ambleside and Consiton, but there are lots of places to eat and spend your money. It is restricted in the centre to delivery vehicles only so it is pleasingly quiet. You can even charge your EV in one of the car parks. There are many walks directly from the village.

Hawkshead is a lovely village, with enough to do without being busy or over-commercial.All the places we visited were friendly, good value and authentic. Walks around the village are lovely, covering a range of abilities. Hawkshead also has historical importance, with its links to Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.

A very relaxing home from home hotel in the heart of Hawkshead village with parking nearby, just £9 for 24 hours. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. We stayed in one of their suites again, a king sized bed, coffee maker, kettle and luxury bathroom. Even the rain on the velux sounded heaven...

The convenience (walking distance) to the village and to all Lake District Attractions. Hawkshead is a lovely village, beautifully looked after, and a well kept secret as opposed to other Lake District villages or towns. People incredibly friendly and Mark and Emma wonderful hosts.
