Kirby is a lovely place, very clean, very tidy and has a lived in feel to it. We had two evening lovely meals in Plato's and a very nice Pizza and a pint in the Royal Barn regularly frequented by cyclists and marathon runners (its enough to make me come out in a sweat thinking about it!!). All very entertaining!! We went on the train to experience the Ribble Viaduct (an amazing structure) but we also visited on foot which was a way better experience. Getting off the main roads and experiencing the open moors is a must, fantastic scenery. Just sit and take in the magnificent grassy slopes, its not compulsory to go up them you know !! One thing I meant to raise with restaurateurs about the cuisine in the Dales, 'why are there so few Lamb dishes on menus', bearing in mind that there are more sheep than people up here, perhaps you you could ask for me?

Kirkby Lonsdale used to be very lively, with lots of nightlife, maybe it was just a Monday night, but I was surprised at how quiet it was, almost like a ghost town, I'm sure the weekend would be different though, as visitor peak drinking timings have polarised. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops were closed on a Monday, which surprised me for a tourist town. The view over the river valley is superb, wort every penny visiting to see that.

We found Kirby Lonsdale a lovely small town surrounded by wonderful country side . I was with a rambling group and enjoyed some excellent walks . The scenery almost everywhere was almost 180 degrees and was magnificent the terrain was so varied. We ate mainly at our accommodation,but also at the Royal Hotel and Sun Hill Hotel with the group , all could be recommended. It was also very well situated to allow easy travel to other locations particular Kendal and the Lakes . Although small there were many interesting shops excellent coffee shops and tea rooms Were ever you went people where so welcoming ,friendly and helpful. The only downside was parking..

Kirkby Lonsdale is a must visit if you're on your way to the Lake District. The scenery is beautiful in and around this lovely market town, lots of places to eat and some wonderful walks. The shops are good too. Devils Bridge over the river Lune is a short stroll from the centre, perfect place for a paddle, swim and picnic

Beautiful Lakeland town.

Beautiful Lakeland town. Fabulous historical location with easy walking, not to hilly st all. First class eateries and pubs. Very friendly place with curious little shops to offer some unusual gifts or remembrances.

Kirkby is a lovely, peaceful, pretty village with...

Kirkby is a lovely, peaceful, pretty village with wonderful scenery, especially Ruskins View which was captured in a stunning painting by William Turner in 1822. The walk along the the River Lune is so lovely and gives you a wonderful feeling of well being I would certainly recommend it. The Royal Barn is an excellent pub/brewery to visit selling wonderful real ales brewed in the area.
