Abby and Ed are incredible people that I am happy to have met. They were exceptional hosts who provided everything we needed and more. I am eager to return as the visit was far too short for how much of the town we wanted to explore.

We never really saw the actual property as there was a 2-3 story spiral staircase to get to the actual living area and I was not able to climb the staircase.

What Guests Said About Lewes:

Lewes is a wonderful small town situated within the South...

Lewes is a wonderful small town situated within the South Downs. It is quirky with its own real charm. Conveniently located for both the beautiful countryside and easy access by train to Brighton for its cosmopolitan vibe and beaches. We had wonderful coffee and an amazing view at Taith Coffee and two excellent meals at No 34 Lewes wine bar.

Historic town with many places of interest to visit eg.

Historic town with many places of interest to visit eg. Lewes Castle, The Priory ruins and Anne of Cleves House. The Grange Gardens are very attractive and free to enjoy. Lots of lovely independent local shops, pubs and cafes. Parts of the town are rather hilly so perhaps not so good for those with mobility issues.

Lewes is very good as a place to stay if you are interested...

Lewes is very good as a place to stay if you are interested in history or just like browsing local shops. It also has excellent railway connections so you can get to Brighton, Hastings, Eastbourne and up into Sussex by public transport. It is hilly and a good base if you want to explore the South Downs by walking. A good range of restaurants, pubs and cafes too.

Remains of Norman castle on its motte with extensive views.

Remains of Norman castle on its motte with extensive views. Small museum shows short film about history of Lewes & there is an excellent model of it. Interesting town architecturally but rather a lot of traffic. Very hilly.

Friendly people, smiling faces.

Friendly people, smiling faces. Very historic and amazing views from the Castle especially. 9 pubs within a 3 minute walk, all serving food. A plethora of restaurants, my favourite being Rustico which sells delicious Pastas and Pizzas. Fantastic bus services to and from surrounding towns and villages, stretching from Eastbourne to Brighton. Good train services and fast ones to London.

We didn't really see much of Lewes as most of our weekend...

We didn't really see much of Lewes as most of our weekend was spent in Brighton for the marathon. However, what we did see was very nice and we did spend an enjoyable evening there with family prior to the marathon at ASK Italian restaurant. We intended using the train service into Brighton but due to engineering works they were not running, however regular buses were laid on in their place which ran until around 11.30 pm, so not a problem. Would have liked a little more time to look around Lewes as have heard from family members that it is a lovely place to visit.

Good location in the centre of the small village of Firle. Good sized bedroom with good shower. Friendly staff. Our dinner in the restaurant was delicious, a good choice of wine and drinks and the serving staff (Poppy) very helpful. The breakfast menu choice was much better than just the usual standard English breakfast offering, plus the choice of pastries, juices etc was well presented, plus a selection of newspapers.

Location, Central to Lewes. Plenty of eating options, Near Waitrose and bus stops for Brighton, Tunbridge Wells. Comfortable, not noisy in spite of being at busy road junction. Would stay again plenty of interest in the area not too far from Lewes.

For such a small space I thought it got the absolute maximum out of it in terms of facilities and comfort, the bathroom was bigger than in some hotels I've stayed in. Short walk into Lewes itself. The cottage felt very modern and light.
