I liked the location. There was a field out side the room with a number of pheasants going through the matting rituals. The dinning room is quaint with decor dating back a while. The food was excellent.

It lives up to its billing - it is a hotel of distinction and very spacious, We had a large modern recently refurbished bedroom with fine cotton linen. Great breakfast in large conservatory. Wonderful views and grounds and lots of parking. No road noise and as bedrooms are separated from the main function rooms, it is wonderfully quiet. Definitely recommend a visit

I was pleasantly surprised by the room. It was spacious, clean, and had plenty of storage space. There was a large, built-in desk with an office-style chair, which was lovely as I needed to do some conference calls, and a sizeable bathroom with a full bathtub. The staff was lovely, start to finish. I had booked last-minute, and then extended my stay at the last possible minute, and they dealt with it graciously. Both the reception staff and the ladies who maintain the hotel and manage the breakfast area were polite, welcoming, and professional. Lastly, the location was perfect; just opposite the promenade. Highly recommend, and would gladly stay again.

We stayed for a couple of nights, and it was absolutely wonderful. We felt pampered and very well taken care of. Used the facilities to the fullest, went for walkes, trained at the gym, went to the pool and got treatments at the Spa. A big shout out to Beatrice who was amazing and went above and beyond for a very tired lady.

Absolutely wonderful little town where time has just stopped, all the old buildings are well maintained so you get the feeling as if you travelled back in time! Quite and walkable (lots of hills though, so bear that in mind), lovely beach is just 10 minutes away by bus. Also - the best fish and chips in the U.K.! The downside of the town is that pretty much everything shuts down at 5pm or so, but I guess it's a small town thing. Definitely worth coming (2 days is perfect).

We didn't spend much time in Lewes as we were attending a 50th wedding anniversary at the Southdown Sports Club. The White Hart was a good hotel although we were in room 18 which was on the top floor with no lift and we are in our mid-70's The only disappointment was the breakfast offering. The main course, full English was excellent but no fruit or cereal was available before the main course. Therefore the price of £284 for 1 night B&B was expensive for what we got. However, the location of the hotel was fine.

Poco Osteria in Alfriston was amazing, incredible pasta and lovely staff. The hotel pool was lovely and a good temperature. Food was all good. Staff were all lovely, particularly the reception ladies. There is a lovey walk down to Seaford and it is then an easy train ride to Brighton.

can't believe how much sandy beach appears when the tide is out ! lovely for playing on. there are few shops on the beach for refreshments, which is a bonus as the area stays so nice, but can feel like a hindrance when you need the toilet or food. The KitKat Cafe had great toasted sandwiches and ice creams !

Lovely village, lively pub, good beer (Harveys) & food in bar on, friendly bar staff, comfy bed, effective shower. Note: breakfast is from 9am (useless to business travellers). Fire door issue which meant I had to climb out of a window must have been fixed by now? Detailed issue: After a 05:30 start and all day workshop I was tired on arrival so neglected to ask the time of breakfast (mentioned on your website and Booking.com). Greeter mentioned if I came in after 11pm I'd need to use the key to get in via rear door. I had a meeting in East Grinsted at 9am so came down for breakfast at about 8am. Locked grill to bar and kitchen. Rear door "push bar to open" grey handle wouldn't push down to unlock. I tried it a couple of times with the flat of my hand. I ended up climbing out of a window onto the flat roof and onto the fire escape wooden steps. Headed into town and grabbed a McDonalds before my all day meeting (not the 'Full English' I'd been looking forward to!). Perhaps other guests are overhung tourists with a leisurely schedule who find 9am is a good time? What if there had been a fire? What if I'd been disabled or a short 8st woman?

Newhaven itself seems more of a working town than a touristy town, the main focus is the harbour and from what I was told, a lot of people stay there simply for access to the ferry to go to france. But, its a good base for going exploring the area surrounding. You can walk to seaford which is more touristy, near to seaford is the seven sisters cliffs which is a hike to get to, but worth it. Newhaven has some good walks, you can walk along the charles coastal path to peacehaven quite easily, there is a spot between the two that is marked on googhle maps as "giant ammonites" where there are/were fossilized ammonites when the tide is out, but when I looked I either missed them or they have worn away Nearby is the town of lewes which was a nice town, has a castle/museum, abandoned priory ruins for the history buffs, and is nice to walk around. you can stay on the train in lewes to go to brighton if that is your thing, Brighton for me a little too hectic of a place For me personally one thing I liked was that there was a skatepark in newhaven, a skatepark in seaford, a skatepark in lewes, a skatepark in peacehaven, and as someone whose ridden a board for 30 years it was nice to check out some fresh parks. Overall it is a nice place if you want a laid back holiday and dont need a big itenary
