We had the most tranquil weekend at the Charcoal Cabin. We were greeted by the lovely John, who showed us around and explained how to use the heater, shower, toilet, and all the cabin’s features. What John and Dinah have created here is something truly special, full of heart and soul, and a peaceful escape in the most stunning location. The cabin was easy to find, and we spent our time exploring the nearby forest, having lunch in Llandovery, playing games and vinyl records in the cabin provided by John and Dinah, and cooking in the outdoor kitchen. The next day we did the Four Waterfalls Trail, which was incredible. We wish we’d booked for more than one night, it was perfect. We can’t wait to return in the future!

Hospitality was exceptional with the host meeting us on the lane heading into town and turning around to make sure there was no problem checking in. Magnificent views around the property that has been done up superbly and only a 10 - 15 minute drive into Llandovery. I wouldn't hesitate in booking again.

The staff were very friendly and helpful from the start. My husband was on crutches and the room we had been given was at the top of the building. The young man immediately said he would see if we could have a room with less stairs. This was sorted quickly. The room was spacious and spotless, with a very comfy bed. Breakfast good.

Lovely old market town, drovers' route with some small independent shops, charity shops, places to eat, drink and stay. Scenic areas around, ruined castle and large knight sculpture. Everyday people live here and go about their business.

Llandovery is an attractive, historic town, with several interesting places to see ( eg castle ruins), some quirky local shops and a good choice of places to eat and drink. There is a lovely circular walk from the town into the attractive surrounding countryside and within an hour’s drive there are some great castles to visit.

Used Llandovery as a base for a walking weekend.

Used Llandovery as a base for a walking weekend. It’s easy to find food, plenty of options including home cooking at West End cafe that is open early and closes at 8pm. Walking in the area is frustrating, so many paths blocked either by fences, fallen trees or just overgrown (this applies to paths outside the Brecon Beacons National Park). My biggest complaint is the EV charging which is really difficult if not impossible to use. The ones in the main car park require an app which then failed to work and the shame applies to the one by the leisure centre. This could have ruined my weekend and is something that could really put parole off visiting.

A quaint, Welsh town steeped in history, where you can see a magnificent modern statue of Prince Llewelyn, and hear the Welsh language spoken so melodiously. The rugby club is a wonderfully friendly place.

I don't travel too far from the property, as I am happy with the local context, but if you like travelling out, then there is lots on locally and further out of Llandovery. Lots of stillness, peace and enjoying the natural world. Due to allergies, cooking facilities in the property make it really easy for eating in. Solo and families can enjoy lots of walks. A scattering of independent shops and pubs to enjoy.

Our stay was for 3 nights. The owners Mark and Karen made us feel very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. The breakfast was excellent, so much choice. Good choice of pubs within walking distance and activities were from 40 minuets drive, depending where you want to go. Highly recommend this hotel.

The apartment was superb with excellent facilities. It was a short walk from the Bear Hotel itself. We ate in the Bear on the Saturday and Sunday evenings. The food was excellent and good value. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
