One of the most lovely hotels I have ever stayed at. It was absolutely charming. We tasted many whiskeys in the hotel bar, guided by the wonderful bartender. Our room had two chairs to over look the bay and we could see the ships arrive. It was really one of the experiences that we will always remember from our (quite memorable) trip.

It was a great location for us between Fionnphort and Craignure. Our beds were so comfortable! We didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. Very convenient to have dinner and breakfast at the Inn. Such a beautiful location. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely come back!

What Guests Said About Salen:

Salen is a lovely, quiet town.

Salen is a lovely, quiet town. It is in a great location and makes it easy to get around to other parts of the Island. We would certainly return again to stay. The Old School was a brilliant place to stay.

Salen is perhaps the closest town but Glenaros Lodge is a distance away on the side of a hill overlooking the water. It is a great place to unwind from travel and city life. It is equidistant from the main attractions of Tobermory, Duart castle, The Isle of Iona, and the Boathouse on Ulva.

We didn't do anything much in Salen, although it does have one of the rare filling stations on the island, but it is a good jumping-off point to other places on Mull, being about half way between north and south ends.

Salen is a great place to stay, it has everything you need like the local spar and petrol station and a wonderful cafe called the Coffee Pot, serving home baked cakes galore!. There are lovely walks in , around and from Salen. You don’t have to go far to see such stunning views of the lochs and hills/ mountains.

We loved the location and the size of the house.

We loved the location and the size of the house. The photos don't really do it justice. We were a group of all adults so every room having an en-suite was just fantastic. We enjoyed using the house - cooking together in the kitchen and relaxing in the living room. There is some construction in the immediate area but this didn't detract from any enjoyment of the property. It was lovely to walk down to the pier in the evening with a bottle of wine and have a drink. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights there but, even without that, the stars were beautiful. A great base to explore the Island as there's so much to do there - walks were great and visits to other Islands were easy. Recommend Ulva with it's unique ferry, Staffa and the beautiful Iona. The bike hire is just across the road and we loved using the electric bikes to go to Tobermory. The shops, local coffee shop and bakery are all within walking distance and there's a great tea room/farm shop about 2 miles away.

Salen is a small village but it has everything you really need as a base for seeing the island. You can walk the length of the main Street in about five minutes. There's a shop and a couple of cafes.
