this was our favorite place on a weeklong trip.. food was great (pub food) and breakfast was the best of the trip too, and included with the room. Nice road to walk along in the morning. Nice atmosphere hanging out and eating and drinking pints in the pub ... all very friendly locals nicest people you could meet. We were welcomed warmly by the guy behind the bar on arrival. Tip would be pay your restaurant bill for your room the night before you leave. Parking was invariably right out front for us. Most patrons must walk to the pub (real locals)

A wonderfully quirky stay with exactly the right amount of Somerset charm. The Crown at Pilton feels less like a hotel and more like being welcomed into the village’s best-kept secret. Our room was comfortable, spacious and full of character, and the whole place has a relaxed, slightly eccentric charm that’s impossible not to like. The staff were an absolute delight… friendly, genuine and effortlessly hospitable. In a world of cookie-cutter hotel chains, The Crown is a refreshing reminder that personality still counts. Excellent value for money, plenty of charm, and we’d love to stay again.

It wasn't what we were expecting there are very few amenities. No pub in the centre of town only two restaurants a chinese take away and a kebab shop. Very few shops on the high street and the ones that were open only opened 10 to 3 or 11 to 4. We ate La Bella italian restaurant the food and service was good and would recommend.

Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. From the moment we we arrived at Maplestone we were made to feel really welcome. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. Well done Alan and thank you for your making us feel so welcome.

We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton doesn't really have lots of pubs/restaurants to go to, the bar at the shrubbery and the club were the best.,it's difficult to get taxis, does have Interesting buildings to visit church/prison.

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two day visit to Longleat, we didn't really explore anywhere else other than visiting two local pubs to have our evening meals i.e the Mendip Inn (twice) and the Thatched Cottage - the food in both was extremely good and the staff in both places couldn't have been more helpful.

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see of interest in the area. Not much in the way of nightlife but we weren't looking for that anyway. Some of the shops /pubs are sadly empty but that seems to be happening everywhere these days.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down. Collet park is nice just off the centre. It feels safe, family friendly. It is very convenient for access to Wells and the palace and Cathedral, East Somerset Railway is great. The prison is worth a visit. It gives you a picture of life through prisons of the 1600's through to second world war executions.

The room was spacious enough for me and my husband and it was clean and well-kept. The bed was comfy, there were extra cushions and a blanket should we need it. The bathroom was clean and well maintained with a decent shower. The breakfast was exceptional, with both fresh fruits and a full English. The host was very knowledgeable of the local area and what was going on during our stay - he recommended some lovely places and events that we went to.
