A pretty little village in Ryedale - cafes, gift and food shops and 2 pubs. Good bus service along to the coast or Pickering and Helmsley. Have visited the area many times over the years - says it all, it’s lovely to come back to!

Beautiful walks around the village, which is extremely picturesque. Lots of places to eat and drink in the village itself but you do need to book in advance for Brandysnap Bistro and The Buck. Unfortunately we were unable to have a meal in either but understand that they are extremely good. Nice pint in The Buck, which is very friendly with plenty of room and a large beer garden. Dog friendly too. We ate in The Horseshoe Inn, Levisham and The Black Swan, Pickering. Both were of very good quality and very welcoming with excellent service. Thornton is a great base for exploring the neighboring countryside and coast.

I have never been in this area, but love the countryside.

I have never been in this area, but love the countryside. It's a beautiful spot, & you need more than a few days to really appreciate what is here, & other places can be reached by local buses if you want a break from driving! We didn't eat out, but bought local produce from the shop that also has the post office. We visited the Bangers, & Cash shop, & received a birthday card for a special 80th birthday! Great ice-cream shop, just a beautiful village, character stone houses, & gardens, & verges full of daffodils at this time of year

The village was worth exploring lots of paths and bridle ways and the stream added to the atmosphere as it wound its way through and round the village.lots of picturesque cottages round every corner pity there were so many empty but in the height of summer these will be full of tourists, it’s a shame local people are priced out of ppty market.

the village is lovely but the New Inn we had stayed at nine years ago and it was a lively pub with great food but this time when we arrived no food no bar open and room very dark, i bought a torch the next day in order to read my book. No breakfast on the Monday and no where in village to get one that was open. Had a good breakfast next morning but was told when we sat at table 'you haven't ordered breakfast' and I told him were were not told to, to which he said' The barman should have told youlast night!

Thornton Le Dale is a lovely village in North Yorkshire and is the home of Mathewsons of Bangers and Cash fame. Due to the lack of breakfast at the New Inn we went to Baldersons Cafe which was very good with excellent staff. The village is quite small, however, there seem to be regular buses to Pickering and Whitby. Avoid the New Inn if you are looking for a B&B.

This is an "Old English" hotel/pub with great character. The room was of good size and comfort. A pleasant and friendly bar area with a good choice of local (Yorkshire) beers and others. The menu was not overly large or complicated but offered a good choice range. The food was really good, well presented and served by the chef (nice touch).
