Tucked away in one of the most beautiful locations in the north of India (Uttarakhand), this is one of those hidden gems which will keep you coming back for more. Here are some of the points that make Faraway cottages a must visit : 1) The View: If you are a person that appreciates true natural beauty like myself, you will get to feast your eyes on majestic unobstructed 360 degree views of the himalayas all around you. And no amount of this will ever be enough. It leaves a last impression on you and the sense of amazement stays with you every time you look around. There are also sprawling views of fields and farms below. 2) The Food: We went in with no expectation about the food at a cottage, as we tend to mostly explore the restaurants in the area to experience local culture. Not here. The unassuming cozy restaurant offers some seriously good dishes which will have you licking your fingers after every meal. It has to be something to do with the water in the area, but EVERY SINGLE MEAL was DELICIOUS. So much so that I met with the chef and made sure he felt my appreciation. 3) The People: The hospitality of the Pahadi(mountain people) is well known, and is exemplified at this this location. Such kind, welcoming and warm people - this I felt was truly the best part of visiting Uttarakhand in general but in particular this cottage. I wanted to specifically mention Naval Kishore, the manager - always made sure we felt at home and tended to our every need Our server, who treated us like royalty every time we came for a meal. You are truly made to feel special.

Great and spacious rooms. The views from hotel is too good. The room has bed heater, which was super comfortable in the cold weather. The resort is very cozy and good staff. Will again stay here, if I come to Auli again

Harish ji was an excellent host. The view is breathtaking and the rooms are good too. I went with a party of 6 and we all had a great time here. The staff was extremely sweet and they made our stay more comfortable. I would definitely return to this place.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Stay and Hospitality We had one of the best stays during our journey. The hospitality was outstanding, and the ambience was warm and welcoming. The environment was peaceful and relaxing, giving us a true "home away from home" feeling. The room was cozy, comfortable, and well-maintained. The food was excellent and one of the highlights of our stay. The only minor inconvenience was reaching the room, as the route was a bit difficult to navigate. However, this did not significantly affect our overall experience. Overall, a wonderful stay with great service, comfort, and delicious food. Highly recommended.

We visited in March, when the Yatra season has not begun.

We visited in March, when the Yatra season has not begun. There was a lot of snow around Joshimath. Auli was full of snow and skiing was still ON. The ski chair-lift from Auli to No. 8 is a thrilling ride and offers mindblowing views. View of Nandadevi, Dronagiri, Hathi-Ghoda-Palki peaks from No. 8 is astounding. Joshimath was also an uplifting spiritual place. Adi Shankaracharya's Mut and Narsingh temple were extremely peaceful and set in a beautiful location. Cable car ride to No. 8 starts from Joshimath, which offers astounding views of the mountains too. There are numerous hikes near Auli and Joshimath. Tapovan hot water springs are an hours drive away.
