FAQs about hotels in Brescia

Lombardy’s Best Kept Secret

Affluent Brescia is an industrial hub whose Roman and medieval monuments are relatively undiscovered. Its strategic location in the foothills of the Alps and midway between Lake Garda and Lake Iseo was coveted by invaders, and during efforts to ward off the Austrians it earned the nickname of the Lioness of Italy.

Brescia’s oldest landmarks are the Capitolium, overlooking the former Forum, and the Roman theatre remains. Artefacts found on both sites are displayed in the city museum in St Julia’s Monastery alongside remains of 2 Roman houses with their original mosaics, murals and underfloor heating.

The Broletto was the medieval town hall and it shares a large, cobbled square with the round Old Cathedral (or Rotonda) which is partly below current street level. Between them is the New Cathedral, begun in the 17th century. Piazza della Loggia is dominated by the Loggia itself and at the opposite end is a porticoed walkway housing shops and cafes.

Overlooking this from a hill is Brescia Castle whose ramparts offer views towards the lush Franciacorta wine-growing region. To the east is Sant'Eufemia della Fonte Monastery, home of the Mille Miglia Museum commemorating the iconic motorsport race which started here.

Booking.com’s accommodation options include luxury hotels, cheap apartments by the train station and B&Bs near Brescia Airport.

We really enjoyed Brescia, it has plenty of restaurants and bars which are easily accessible. It is a good location to visit many other places. Lake Bled 15 min by train, Lake Iseo, Bergamo and many more. We only had 4 days and were attending a wedding, wished we had booked a longer break. It is a lovely area.

This is the little hidden gem of Italy!

This is the little hidden gem of Italy! A day or two is more than enough for the center, but if you are able to, please rent a car and go beyond to the lakeside villages! I mean, a car (or a bicycle) is a must if you want to go beyond the old town, because, sadly, public transportation is poorer than in most European cities I have visited. But the old town is amazing and you can have great city views from the castle (even from its parking lot!)

Brescia has so much to offer in terms of history and beautiful piazzas, as well as being within easy reach of lake Garda, Milan and Mantua. The Santa Giulia museum in particular was world class. There were many top quality restaurants to choose from - we loved the Floriam restaurant and Mangiafuoco for fantastic local food and wine.

A must visit city, far better experience than over touristy Verona, for example. Many museums and sites of interest, laid back vibe at night , lots of restaurants with great variety of cuisines, mainly "locals" from suburbs or the old town, chilling in a very pleasant atmosphere, amazing historical buildings and Italian charm. Has all the architecture of "typical" Italy, but without the crowds.

Excellent hotel if you want to spend some nights in Brescia and/or the proximity to the rail station is a priority. The hotel is really nice, perfect value for money. One needs to walk a little bit (no more than 20 minutes) to get to the city center, but the underground can also be used in case one wants to avoid that. For the rest, the room was really nice with the right size. Very nice breakfast as well. Overall a very nice experience and definitely worth the money spent.

This was my favourite hotel of our holiday in France and Italy - a beautiful small hotel centrally located in Brescia's old town and close to all the major sites as well as to multiple lovely restaurants and bars. A spotlessly clean and well designed room in a beautifully renovated old building. Excellent breakfast in a pleasant room, with friendly service and great communication from the lovely women who run the hotel.

Cosy, spacious room in a quiet side street of an otherwise uninspiring industrial area that the north of Italy specialises in. The heating was up to scratch, the bathroom was spacious and the staff were lovely. It's best to book the restaurant; we didn't make it but the bistro next door is excellent value.
