This is our best stay in Japan ... if you want to experience with Japanese an old house like shirakawago but with full modern modification ... This is the place ... stay and enjoy the area with a very small population but also a very kind heart welcoming from the mother of the host . The location must be reached by private car, and please provide your own food to bring .. you can cook here ... there's no restaurant or shop around.... just green and slow ... We only planned to do one night in Shirakawa, but with the price point of Guest House Kei, we decided to stay one more night. The property was lovely, and the staff were very friendly, specifically Ken, who gave us great recommendations for our journey onwards. The beds were very comfortable, and the facilities were clean. The property had free parking as well, which was very convenient. They also offered a shuttle service to and from the bus terminal.

Absolutely everything! This property will put you in the heart of Shirakawa-go. Its location allows you to walk around in the village at night and truly feel immersed in this beautiful place. This is a unique accommodation in that there are ~3 rooms. Each room shares either one or two walls with the room next door, meaning that you need to be very mindful of the sounds that you make as sounds carry very easily through the walls. As of June 2026, there are no staff that speak English, so be sure to have Google translate available. The staff is unbelievably nice and the food was by far the best food I’ve had in Japan. I will definitely be returning here!
