FAQs about hotels in Christchurch

Stunning Natural Beauty at Your Doorstep

Dusting itself off from a series of recent earthquakes is the seriously stunning New Zealand city of Christchurch. While its old English buildings like ChristChurch Cathedral are being rebuilt, the magnificent Botanic Gardens and Hagley Park sustain its reputation as the Garden City.

Located along the Avon River, NZ’s 2nd-largest city has Victoria Square at its centre. Surrounding highlights include the Canterbury Museum and the Gothic-style Arts Centre. Sumner Beach is a favourite location for locals when the sun shines.

Out towards the spectacular harbour town of Lyttelton is the Christchurch Gondola ride where you can enjoy a sweeping view of the city.

The South Island’s capital is a good starting-off point for extreme sports such as bungee jumping and white-water rafting. The majestic Southern Alps surround the city and offer world-class ski resorts such as Methven, at the foot of Mt. Hutt.

A large selection of motels and hotels are available on Booking.com, including in the vicinity around Christchurch International Airport.

love all the art and the city centre and that you can just walk around and get to see it all. and using the tram is the best way to get around and you learn something at the same time, the library has a picture on the wall that you can move to find out more about what you would like to know more about and its free, also everywhere I went I feel at home. And the people are kind. there is lots to do. Hagley Park is beautiful just being outside then the riverside market is a wonderment in itself. and don't forget the ice-cream.

Christchurch is a pretty and vibrant city, still undergoing significant changes after the earthquake. It has plenty of character and charm, and really easy to walk around the inner-city. It is the gateway to some fantastic scenic beauty from coastline to mountain ranges, sweeping flat farmland, and beautiful rivers. I was here for work, and I opted to stay in the city, where a great selection of meal varieties, within easy walking distance. And travel to outlying areas was easy, with good navigational apps. There is still a lot of infrastructure being rebuilt, so in coming years Christchurch will only get better. Went to the new One NZ Stadium, which was mind-blowing. The only thing that would make this better would be to see the All Blacks beating the Springboks there.

It was beautiful city to drive and walk around.

It was beautiful city to drive and walk around. We really enjoyed Manaaki Whenua at Lincoln and the friendly staff and volunteers there. We had a yummy well priced Greek dinner over at Lyttelton. We also had a nice get together at the Astro Lounge and were presented with hot water bottles in the garden bar - what a lovely thing to receive!

Christchurch is a beautiful city that is still healing after the big earthquake that distroyed many buildings in the city centre. It is great to see new and old architectural styles co-exist in the city centre, and the new buildings give Christschurch a new identity, a new beginnig. The Botanic Gardens are always a must see for everyone who travels to Christchurch, even in winter. Walking along the Avon River is a very pleasant activity for the young and less young people who enjoy idilic places. The Port Hills and a visit to nearby Lyttleton are just a short drive away. I am broken-hearted though to see the Cathedral still not being repaired. I remember the Cathedral from years ago when I saw and spoke to The Wizzard, a very interesting and sofisticated man who would chat to tourists and locals, with enthusiasm and humour. So yes, I highly recommand Christchurch to travellers who want to see the most beautiful city of the South Island of New Zealand.

Location is everything. I normally fly to Christchurch, then overnight before getting the intercity bus home the next morning. Christchurch City Hotel is the perfect location. It’s only a 7 minute walk to the bus station. The rooms are a good size, not the teensy tiny rooms of some other budget hotels nearby. Yes you can get cheaper rooms nearby, but this is the perfect stopover.
