Unbelievable view on the sea through a really nice terrasse and outside area. From there, you can just walk on a quiet neighborhood beach. Appartments are really well done and equipped with everything needed. Great place for me to go diving from Tutukaka, a few km's away.

We stayed at Pohutukawa Batch for 8 days while in town for family business, and it was an awesome place to stay. Even though the weather was cold, windy, and rainy, the batch was warm and inviting, with two heaters that kept us extra cosy the whole time. The batch is fully equipped — unlike some places that only provide the basics. We cooked dinner every night for four people and had everything we needed with no issues at all. We also found the price amazing for everything included — honestly felt underpriced for the comfort and quality we got. The batch was spotless, and the beds were soft and comfortable, giving us some of the best sleeps we’ve had in a long time. If you love fishing, you’ll love the location. It’s just a short walk across the road to the beach. I caught kahawai and trevally — just cast towards the buoys and chur chur! The shower is hot with perfect water pressure, which made coming back from the cold even better. The main town is only a short drive away, so everything is nice and convenient. The owners live upstairs and are warm, friendly, and very chill people, so don’t be shy. We also loved the family photos and learning a little about the history of the house — you can really feel the love and care the family has put into this place. All I can say is highly recommend — definitely 10 out of 10!

We loved walking the bridge from Pataua South to Pataua...

We loved walking the bridge from Pataua South to Pataua North & around the area. The beaches at Pataua North & South were great but particularly liked the South beach. Another favourite was McGregor Bay down Taiharuru Rd. Ocean Beach & Smugglers Bay lovely beaches further away on Whangãrei Heads. Great fish & chips at Onerahi (& Chinese food in the same shop) A must see is Hundertwassar Art Centre in Whangãrei (& the fish hook bridge Te Matau ã Pohe) Climbing Mt Te Whara & Mt Manaia were strenuous but worth the effort.
