The best little town to visit!
The best little town to visit! Plenty of different kinds of eateries to suit all. Best shop by far is The Cove!! I could of spent all day in there!! Clove .. Best little Indian food restaurant i have been too. Very nice food! Atmosphere etc. The beach is absolutely stunningly breathtaking. So peaceful and calming vibe thru out the place. New world and Woolworths. Plenty of gas stations. Must visit is Cathedral Cove. Amazing beach. Photographers haven! Hot water springs ... bliss. Corromandal Town was lovely to see and you must visit the Zipline and ride the little railway train around the mountain thru beautiful, stunning forest with amazing views and information. We will definitely be returning in the not too distant future!!! AAA++++

Whitianga is a delightful place to visit, the white sandy...
Whitianga is a delightful place to visit, the white sandy beaches are beautiful and the scenery is spectacular.
There are lots of very good restaurants, a variety of shops, a cinema and excellent museum.
The little ferry over the harbour is five minutes and well worth visiting the opposite side for the beaches, Shakespeare's Cliff and Cathedral Cove.
Hiring a bike from Zoomandel enables you to go further.
Lunch at The Hive is very good and Eggcentric.

The wharf is a great attraction with ferry boat coming in...
The wharf is a great attraction with ferry boat coming in and out constantly as well as fishing vessels and a beautiful old schooner which takes tourists out into Mercury Bay. The village is dotted with great eateries. We enjoyed Marina Bay and once before we eat at Stoked. Electric bikes capable of taking a pinion passenger are available at Hikomoto but they are heavy if you are not confident with handling.
On crossing in the ferry you can walk over to Flaxmill Bay or climb up the point to a pa site. There are more lovely swim sites on that side too.

A long, sweeping beach excellent for swimming / sun bathing.
A long, sweeping beach excellent for swimming / sun bathing. The marina area has a great busy vibe, with boats, cafes and walking paths.
The downtown village area has everything you need, and posesses and a really relaxed Kiwi seaside charm.
The beauty of Whitianga is apart from its own beach, you're in easy reach (with a car) of numerous other stunning beaches. Cooks beach is just a ferry ride and short walk away as well. We visited / swam at five beaches in six days.

We did a boat trip to cathedral beach that was fantastic had...
We did a boat trip to cathedral beach that was fantastic had time to swim and the boat found a pod of dolphins which was a bonus 😀
We had some very good meals in the pubs and restaurants
The drive to whitianga isn't for the faint hearted but the views are fantastic

We booked at the last minute so had to take a room overlooking the parking lot and road. We could see that there were really nice rooms available so if returning we would try to book one of those. To be fair our room was cheaper and was perfectly adequate.
