Booked the Family Suite, and the staff were very kind and considerate confirming bed preferences, parking, and offering a cot for our son. Looking at the photos, we thought the room would be smaller, but it turned out perfect. The hotel is clean, well equipped, and in a very convenient location and even has a supermarket within walking distance. You may hear some sirens since it’s across from a major hospital, but once the door is closed it’s totally manageable. Our son even loved seeing a rescue helicopter up close!

I had a lovely stay at the Sojourn Apartment Hotel in Ghuznee Street, Wellington. The team at Sojourn were absolutely brilliant, and I was made to feel very welcome right from the first introductions. The apartment had a very comfortable bed, and all of the essential amenities were provided in the room. A laundry-room was also available which could be used by guests if desired. The level of cleanliness was very high, and the friendly reception team made my two nights stay really enjoyable I would recommend the Sojourn Apartment Hotel to any traveller wishing to visit Wellington, and who wants great accommodation in the centre of the city. Wild and Wonderful Welly

Acclaimed for its thriving art, film and cultural scene, windy ‘Welly’ is enclosed by mountains such as Kaukau and Victoria on one side and the picturesque Wellington Harbour on the other. Wellington has the distinction of being the world’s southernmost capital city.

As the gateway to New Zealand’s magical south island, Queens Wharf is headquarters for ferry services across Cook Strait as well as in the direction of Eastbourne on the other side of the harbour.

Get your bearings by using the Kelburn cable car that starts at Lambton Quay and travels up to the Botanic Gardens and Carter Observatory with its sweeping views across the Miramar Peninsula and local bays.

We live a short distance out of Wellington but decided to...

We live a short distance out of Wellington but decided to have a couple of nights in Wellington to catchup with the changes. If you want to experience outer Wellington, take Bus Number 23 and this will take you up past Newtown, the Zoo and over the Hills to Houghton Bay, taking in the views of Lyall Bay and the Airport. then hop on Bus No. 29 and this will take you up through Newtown, Southgate, Island Bay, Owhiro Bay and Brooklyn before returning to the City. This bus route also has stunning views. Finally take Bus No. 24 - Miramar Heights. This bus will take you around Oriental Bay, Evans Bay, up Maupuia and Miramar Heights, taking in great views of Wellington Harbour, and past the old prison, back down to Miramar, where you can get off, have a cuppa or lunch then take another bus back to the city, It was a fantastic way to see some of Wellington. If you are lucky some of the buses are double decker and the views are amazing. We got on the buses at Courtenay Place, but you can get on them from lower Lambton Quay if you prefer. There is a bus stop across the road from the Quest where we stayed at 256 Lambton Quay where hop on as well.

Great that all the restaurants etc are easy to get too.

Great that all the restaurants etc are easy to get too. It appeared quite a few shops in Cuba Street were open until quite late, which was awesome. Found the city very disjointed though. Easy to walk to most places, or there are plenty of buses. Really hard to find what we were looking for, and too many one way streets. Outer suburbs of Wellington were a lot better and had a lot more of the shops like The Warehouse etc, however we ended up at the Airport without even realising until we got there! Went to the stadium for the Rugby, which was great getting there, lots of toilets and food stands at the bottom of each lever, however getting out was a disaster as there is only one set of doors for over 34,000 people to get out of! Definitely needs more doors to open for people to leave.

The weather was cold and windy (which is to be expected in winter time), but there was still lots to do indoors. I highly recommend going to Te Papa, as well as the Parliament Buildings and the Beehive, although you will need to book well in advance for the Beehive as they only take small numbers of people daily.

Of all the cities we have visited in NZ, we found Wellington...

Of all the cities we have visited in NZ, we found Wellington to be the least compelling (glad we only stayed 2 days). The parking is a challenge, and we found a lot of frustrated local road users (e.g. someone with walking difficulties taking 10 seconds longer to cross the road resulted in getting abused, people often in a rush and limited tollerance at times). Very much a utilitarian city not so well setup for tourism, unlike many other places in NZ. Would not rush back there are plenty of better options in NZ that are much more suited to tourism. In future I would stop at most overnight, and just transit through rather than stay.

Lovely, comfortable hotel right in the heart of Wellington! Room was well appointed and clean. Bed was lovely and comfortable and facilities had been upgraded since last time we stayed so a high standard. I LOVED that you had beautiful toiletries that smelled amazing. I used the shampoo and conditioner and it felt good on my hair (I usually don’t use these in hotels as they are just cheap quality) but Antipodes is a great brand. Thank you
