I have walked many Camino’s totaling more than 100 nights of private accommodations, this stay was one of the very best. The warmth and hospitality were tremendous, the homemade food better than most anything I’ve had in Portugal, the accommodations, clean, and private and well appointed. I cannot recommend highly enough!

You must love central Portugal to love Ansiao.

You must love central Portugal to love Ansiao. It's a typical large village in central Portugal, but it has a lot of services, such as banks, lots of cafeterias, a great library, free wifi in the library and in some other areas, 2 large supermarkets (but not the best if you like more than just basic food or organic food, I was told Lidl will arrive next year - so fingers crossed). I really don't think there is anything special here, but there is a typical rural (but very unkept, not quaint at all - atmosphere outside of this small town, which some people like. Look, if you are looking for the stunning hills of Tuscany (Italy) and those amasing old but perfectly kept villages of Tuscany or Umbria, many Portuguese places like this one are NOT for you. There are so many badly kept houses and the whole place feels as if you live in a different century, but in an sort of unkept, messy, dirty, derelict way. Not the stunning San Gimingnano in Italy, to give you an example. Not even close. I suppose it's a cheap holiday in tranquility. But vegans and vegetarians will have difficulties in this area. I lost a few kilos because frankly, I found very little to eat.
