The property was beautiful with exquisite decor. It was so beautifully decorated that we felt at home as soon as we arrived. Nashville was so helpfull and accomodating he even bought us toothbrushes 21:00 in the evening when we realised that we have forgotten them at home.

I have stayed there several times now, usually booking the entire house. It’s a stunning venue and Rika, who manages the guest arrangements, is extremely helpful. This last occasion I had a travel complication so arrived just after midnight (instead of the 4pm as planned) and she was still able to let me in! Remarkable support.

We need to go back and spend some more time there.

We need to go back and spend some more time there. We were just passing through but believe there is much to learn and explore there. It was cold and raining and we had booked for an early dinner at The Supper Club - Mandy was a wonderful host and we really enjoyed our short time there (we were feeling a bit tired abd frozen).

Richmond is a good stop when en route from Cape Town to Pretoria, just a little under half way. Tiny town, not much more than a stop over. Quaint restaurant (SupperKlub) - food was ok but staff were lovely and very hospitable

Richmond is a quaint little town. A little hidden gem.

Richmond is a quaint little town. A little hidden gem. We arrived there at about 5pm on Sunday evening.Walked along the main road of the town and drove along the outskirts. All the restaurant were either closed or busy closing at the time we arrived, except for The Richmond Cafe that closed later, think about 9pm. What a little gem. It had a beautiful garden area that we walked through and a little boutique shop. Found it to be so tranquil.

Die Kliphuijs is a beautifully authentic Karoo retreat that offers deep stillness and soul-restoring simplicity. Set against vast open landscapes, the house blends seamlessly into its surroundings, allowing the natural beauty, silence, and expansive skies to take centre stage. The accommodation is thoughtfully restored — rustic yet comfortable — with an honesty that reflects the spirit of the Karoo. Every detail feels intentional rather than overdone, inviting you to slow down, disconnect, and truly exhale. Sunsets are spectacular, nights are incredibly quiet, and the stars feel close enough to touch. We also loved the addition of the on-site restaurant — a real treat after a day of Karoo stillness. The desserts deserve a special mention: beautifully artistic, creative, and absolutely unforgettable. This is not a place for distraction, but for presence — perfect for reading, reflection, long walks, or simply sitting and doing nothing at all. Die Kliphuijs offers a rare kind of luxury: space, silence, and a sense of timelessness. Tip for future guests: if you are planning even a one-night stopover, arrive early in the day to fully enjoy the setting and the pool. Arriving after 1pm truly feels like a missed opportunity — even if you are staying two nights, this is a place best savoured slowly. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, grounding, and an authentic Karoo experience.

A quaint little village stooped in history.

A quaint little village stooped in history. Stayed at a wonderfully spacious and well appointed country house called Three Birds, had a delicious dinner the the Richmond Supper Club and a superb breakfast at the Vetmuis Plaaskombuis.

Richmond offers an ideal stopover for travelers journeying from Gauteng to Cape Town, conveniently located more than halfway to the Mother City. We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of accommodation available. Do be aware that the town tends to shut down around 5 PM, so plan accordingly for dinner and other essentials. A definite highlight was the local butchery, Richmond Meat & Deli. It proved to be a real winner, offering excellent coffee and delicious homemade pies – perfect for a tired traveler!
