We had a wonderful stay at Tugela River Lodge. The service was warm, friendly, and welcoming throughout, which made the stay feel relaxed from the moment we arrived. The setting is absolutely beautiful. Being able to swim and kayak in the river was a real highlight, and the walking trails were excellent. Early mornings were especially memorable, with the sun coming up as the mist and morning dew slowly lifted over the landscape. What made it even better was that we could take our five Yorkies with us. They enjoyed the river, trails, and open space just as much as we did. It is rare to find a place that is this peaceful, scenic, and genuinely pet-friendly. We left feeling rested and grateful. We would happily return and recommend Tugela River Lodge to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing break in nature.

The accommodation was amazing, comfy, cosy, lovely décor. Everything was provided for us. My brother's accommodation was perfect for him too. It was lovely to have the choice of either sitting out in the swing chair at our place, sitting up for a meal under shelter together. Or popping around to my brother's cottage and sitting on the verandah, watching and listening to the variety of birds at the damn. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Especially Sipwe and Jeanise ( sorry not sure how to spell them). It was a luxury to have our clothes laundered and ironed, thank you. The setting was very pretty and peaceful. Thank you :)

Winterton itself is a very small town with limited shopping...

Winterton itself is a very small town with limited shopping facilities. Coffe shops limited but nice. Beware of expecting too much in the way of supermarket and grocery availability in Winterton. The Superspar was the lowest quality Spar I have ever been to, the fresh food section had old and wilted lettuce, rotten tomotoes, cucumbers that were soft and mushy and all veges infact that looked very suspect. I would carry all grocery and vege supplies that you need. No ready packed salads or anything like that. Overall the spar was not clean and looked like a helath hazard for food and stocks.

We had a wonderful stay at Tugela River Lodge. The service was warm, friendly, and welcoming throughout, which made the stay feel relaxed from the moment we arrived. This is a small village town with activities spread geographically distant from the town itself, however,accessible with proper planning & prior booking of activities. Depending on your budget, secure your accommodation closest to the sites you wish to visit - proximity - book in advance as best you can.

We had lunch at the pig and plough, nice menu - slow service, however, we still enjoyed the food and the venue. The Thokozi restaurant and Deli, good food and a nice variety. Sandra se Winkel was an experience - well worth going to when you are in the area.

Winterton’s most attractive aspect is its proximity to the surrounding countryside and the magnificent Drakensberg mountains! There are some good eating places worth a visit! There are a number of churches and a museum for those interested! Winterton boasts with numerous accommodation facilities, all countrified and cosy!

The tour was outstanding (by the owner)of the Anglo Boer...

The tour was outstanding (by the owner)of the Anglo Boer battle sites. The location is perfect at Spionkop. The charming rooms could do with some aircon and bathrooms could do with modernisation but this shouldnt put off anyone from experiencing the Lodge. The staff all very friendly.

The rooms were clean and linen fresh. It was very homely. It was indeed a home away from home. The kindness of the ladies (owner and her daughter) was amazing. They really understood customer care. The owner even allowed us to take pictures of the property for marketing purposes to other people who might be interested to be accommodated in Winterton.

Comfortable stay on a working farm 4km outside Winterton. Spa bath and shower in a spacious bathroom. The down duvet was a winner in winter. We awoke to bird song in the morning. Facilities include a braai and outside seating with a lovely view.

The hiking was amazing and all the activities covered - we were exhausted by the choice! Will definitely come back as the atmosphere was so much fun. Much more like a 'resort' or 'retreat' than just a hotel.
