1860 is self contained, private, romantic accommodation for couples in historic Beechworth. An original, and expertly crafted, Australian timber cabin built in the 1860's and lovingly restored over 4 years. Now a luxury cabin (slab hut construction) perfect for romantic short-breaks and special occasions.
We saw the light & moved to Beechworth in 2003. We love the country lifestyle, nature, outdoors, hiking and camping. We purchased 1860 to save and restore an original Australian 'slab hut' built with hand tools and traditional bush ingenuity. Over 4 years we found recycled materials, milled reclaimed timber and slowly rebuilt 1860 into the super comfortable, authentic, hand-made building it is today.
1860 is located at the end of a country laneway, overlooking Spring Creek and the Lake Sambell nature reserve. It's quiet and private but only an easy 5 minute walk to Beechworth's fabulous restaurants, cafes and boutique shopping.
