Refugio San Antonio protects a vast contiguous forest area of premontane old growth primary as well as secondary rainforest and cloud forest within the Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor and the UNESCO Savegre Biosphere Reserve. The project is dedicated to the preservation and further expansion of this important buffer zone through reforestation and natural succession. All proceeds benefit in full the conservation and reforestation projects of the reserve.

Refugio San Antonio is the largest private nature reserve in the mountains above San Isidro de El General protecting 600 hectares (1500 acres) of premontane rainforest and cloud forest. Nature lovers can enjoy the charming country home with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding primary forests, the town of San Isidro and the Talamanca mountains with the highest peak in Costa Rica - all the way to the Pacific with incredible sunsets. The reserve is managed by local staff, with the goal of preserving and expanding this important buffer zone through reforestation and natural succession. All proceeds benefit in full the conservation and reforestation projects of the reserve.

The local staff speaks Spanish and will be happy to show adventurous nature lovers the beauties of the reserve on one of the many private trails. There are two good-natured horses available for tours. A 4x4 is highly recommended to access the reserve, especially in the green season. Things to do in the neighborhood: San Isidro de El General is about 25 minutes drive and is great for any kind of shopping. The farmer’s market in Tinamastes is open every Tuesday from 8-noon (about 20 min drive). The waterfalls of Nauyaca - often referred to as the most spectacular in Costa Rica - can be reached in 35 minutes (the east entrance is faster to reach and less touristy). The stunning Eco Chontales Waterfalls are approximately one hour drive. The beaches of Dominical are about 45 min away. The neighboring beach in Dominicalito is even better for swimming as is the Poza Azul waterfall which is just a few minutes from the beach. Refugio de Aves Los Cusingos is a must for everyone interested in birds. The area around San Gerado de Rivas with Cloudbridge Reserve and Cerro Chirripó National Park with Costa Rica’s tallest mountain offers many different types of activities in beautiful nature.
