Lucie is a wonderful host who made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was delicious - there was a freshly baked cake every morning, and a different hot dish. I recommend this accommodation for South Downs Way hikers but be sure to take a rest day...

Lucie was wonderful! Very friendly, and very personable. The room was very nice -- beautiful and sunny! Breakfast was also very nice, standard fare, but elegantly presented.

Company info

Arundel is not only a wonderful place for our guests to enjoy, but also the town where we came on our first dates! Iain proposed to Lucie on the banks of the river Arun, with the magical Arundel castle as the most romantic of backdrops - how could she refuse?! Since then, we've moved to Arundel and made it our home, before marrying in the architecturally splendid Town Hall in December 2016. So we can personally vouch for our town as the BEST place to fall in love and get married! In 2014 Lucie left a long and successful career in Human Resources to retrain as a professional cook and follow her dream of setting up a guest house. Having grown up in a B&B, with her remarkable mum only retiring recently, it was already "in the blood". In fact, her mum still makes the breakfast marmalade for Arden House as well as foraging for the wild blackberries which are served in our delicious fruit compote! Iain has also changed careers since moving to Arundel, and is now a highly rated CPSA qualified shooting instructor. Find out more at Iain Stirling's website STIRLING SHOOTING

Property info

Welcome to Arden House! We run a warm and friendly guest house situated in a peaceful setting just a few minutes walk from Arundel Castle and the town centre with its fantastic range of independent shops and restaurants. We can accommodate up to 14 guests in a choice of 7 twin or double rooms, with en-suite or shared facilities. We have off-street parking for up to 4 cars, and there's also parking in the surrounding area. The oldest part of our property dates back 300 years, originally serving as a stable and simple dwelling. The main structure, added in 1880, is believed to have been built as accommodation for skilled workers at the the adjoining Swallow Brewery, which would have been a major employer in the town at that time. Arden House became a guest house in 1967 so we celebrated our 50th birthday in 2017!

Arundel truly offers something for everyone. As we've already said, its an incredibly romantic town and a fantastic setting for weddings or special breaks. If you're after the great outdoors, then we have the South Downs National Park on our doorstep, with miles of spectacular countryside for walking and cycling. We are proud to partner with Marrmalade MTB to host South Downs Way weekenders. Find out more at MARMALADEMTB For nature-lovers we have the excellent Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust just 10 minutes' walk from our door, as well as the beautiful Swanbourne Lane, which attracts a variety of wild birds as well as swans. Within the town, we have stunning architecture, a majestic Castle, a Cathedral, a protestant church which an interesting story tell, the old Arundel jailhouse which hosts live music and other events, as well as a host of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. And as if all of that wasn't enough, we are under 5 miles from the nearest beach, and an excellent base for exploring nearby Chichester and many local visitor attractions. And for those wishing to have-a-go at Clay Target Shooting, we are able to arrange shooting experiences (from novice to experienced shots) at Southdown Gun Club, which is a short drive away.
