Couldn't be more central in Bridport, a mere step to pubs, restaurants and shops. The apartment was very well equipped. Very light and airy and interesting decor. Bed was very comfy. Very fortunate that we were there the weekend of Bridport...

location was very central, Saturday market day close to west bay and Lyme Regis a short bus ride or car journey away, live entertainment in some of the local pubs and bars, plenty of eateries for all budgets would defiantly return.

These are two amazingly positioned flats in the dead centre of Bridport, in a glorious Grade-2 Listed Georgian building. The flats are just next to the Arts centre, and are perched on top of an excellent antiquarian bookshop. Across the street are more bookshops. Bucky-Doo square (between the bookshop and the Georgian town hall) is the focal point for the twice weekly antiques and general market, which takes over most of the town. During the day there are often musicians (of varying quality) performing in the square. There are many excellent cafés and restaurants nearby, and Bridport is turning into a foodie heaven. The Wakeham Trust bought the building in early 2026 and will use income from it it to promote (and fund) artists and literary activity in Bridport and the surrounding area. So as well as having a great time, when you stay here you will be contributing directly to a good cause. The flats have been renovated and offer a luxury self-catering experience. They are both are contemporary-style apartments with a luxurious Vi Spring beds, stylish wet room/bathrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, etc etc. Both have fully fitted kitchens and comfortable sitting rooms, with picturesque views. Please have a look at the pictures. The flats are up quite a steep wooden staircase - so probably they are not suitable for people who might find that difficult to manage. Experience the best of Dorset in this charming location with artisan eateries, the eclectic mix of arts and culture and the famous Jurassic coastline.
The Wakeham Trust has two main stream of activity - support for small local community groups, and support for excellence at all levels in education. We bought this building in February 2026 partly to preserve it and its existing use - which are key to the character of the town - and partly to help us support local educational, literary and arts activities.
Bridport has transformed itself over 40 years, and is now a vibrant small town with a loads of cultural activities, pop-up restaurants, interesting retail (including a huge 'antiques' quarter in an old industrial yard, and a twice-weekly street market), an Arts Centre AND a refurbished arts theatre/cinema ('The Electric Palace'), a good literary festival in November each year, a festival celebrating screen adaptations of literature, and even a festival celebrating silly hats. But it also sits on a especially dramatic bit of the Jurassic coast, with beaches, cliffs and views one way to Golden Cap and Lyme Regis, and the other towards Portland Bill. The seaside portion of Bridport (West Bay) has a lot of traditional seaside activities (boat-trips etc), many food stalls including some offering local day-caught fish and scallops, and great walks in both directions. A bit further on is Lyme Regis - a perfect destination for fossil-hunters, and a very pretty place in its own right. Inland there are also great walks, in folded hills and wooded countryside and also on open downland. Eggardon Heath - an ancient hill fort - is especially spectacular. This is Thomas Hardy country...
