We are Amy and Biff, owners of Ashburton Court Guest House, and award-winning hosts who know how to provide great accommodation for your stay in South Devon.
We met back in 2003 in Greece, where we were working for Thomas Cook holidays and quickly fell for each other. Wanting to go it alone we created Poseidon Sports together, where we hosted guests at our Greek home, while teaching windsurfing and sailing until 2014. We then moved to the British Virgin Islands, where Biff captained and Amy Chef'd delicious food on luxury private & charter yachts. We won the coveted ‘Best Boat in Show’ award at the BVI Charter Yacht Show multiple times due to our hosting skills.
We decided to move to Devon in 2025 to be near our families and were delighted to find our new home at Ashburton Court. Our years of hosting guests both on land and at sea have given us all the knowledge we need to ensure that while visitors arrive as guests, they always leave as friends.
Amy is an excellent chef who has trained at various locations, including Ashburton Cookery School and Chef’s Academy. She will be preparing mouth-watering breakfasts made from locally-grown ingredients. Super-host Biff can help you plan your hiking and biking routes and also makes a mean pot of tea.
We can’t wait to welcome you to our cosy Devon guest house!
Ashburton is known as the 'Gateway to Dartmoor' and the 'Town For All Reasons'. We are blessed with excellent restaurants and pubs, the famous antiques trail, individual independent shops, tea rooms, artisan baker, a lovely fish and general deli, wine merchant and ice cream parlour. There is a vibrant arts & crafts scene in the town, hosted in the numerous art shops & galleries. We're also just a short walk from the Ashburton Arts Centre, hosting musicians, artists, dancing, theatre and discussion from around the world. Walk in the other direction and you reach the renowned Ashburton Cookery School offering lessons to all abilities from 1/2 day workshops to 4 month long certifications.
Aside from all that we are on the edge of Dartmoor where you can run, walk, cycle, horse ride or just sit and relax, 20 minutes from the English Riviera, Dartmouth and Salcombe and numerous sandy beaches yet only 25 minutes from Plymouth and Exeter. Outside of the town there are many wonderful pubs and restaurants catering for all tastes within a few miles of Ashburton Court waiting for you to enjoy.
We can't list everything there is to do within a stones throw of our threshold so we hope you'll pack a sense of adventure and willingness to relax or try something new or get lost! Best thing to do is just come & join us!
Being an old house we do not have on site car parking. Don't let that put you off! There is unrestricted parking along East St. The long stay car park in town is less than a fiver for a 24 hr period, just a 5 minute walk away and on weekends there are a number of open use carparks just a minute or twos walk away.
